Custodial/Maintenance Staff

Christian Heritage Academy is seeking a full-time Custodial/Maintenance Staff to perform facility and grounds maintenance, including some routine cleaning and basic security and safety tasks, and periodically supervise space sharing events. This is a benefits-eligible position with a pay rate of $19-22 per hour.

Requirements

• A commitment to support the Christian faith as outlined in the Academy’s Statement of Faith.
• Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce directives and safety procedures.
• An ability to work independently or as part of a team, take initiative, and must be able to manage multiple tasks with periodic interruptions.
• Good communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to maintain a courteous and respectful attitude in all situations.
• Must demonstrate flexibility in work hours in special circumstances.
• Some knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or carpentry preferred.
• Must be flexible with work hours/schedule and be ready to report to work on a non-work day or holiday in case of an emergency, weather, or environmental event.

Responsibilities

• Follow instructions and complete work assignments as directed by the Facilities Manager.
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness and neatness of school building, property and grounds - sidewalks, parking lots, playground areas, common areas, and planting areas.
• Perform general custodial duties such as cleaning, sweeping, vacuuming, trash removal, etc.
• Perform light maintenance, repairs and other special projects (i.e. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, etc.) as directed.
• Handle emergency cleaning duties during the school day (i.e. spills, throw ups, restroom messes).
• Adhere to safety practices, guidelines, and operating procedures at all times. Monitor windows, doors, and safety hazards to ensure building security.
• Assist in traffic control during school arrivals and dismissals.
• Lift, move Schnd set up furniture and equipment as needed, including helping in the auditorium set up for chapels.
• Assist with the preparation of school events and special activities to include, but not necessarily limited to, setting up, tearing down, and cleaning.
• Perform snow and ice removal duties, including sanding and salting walkways.
• Periodically supervise space sharing events.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Physical Abilities and Working Conditions (this is a representative of, but is not intended to be an exhaustive list.)

• Require prolonged periods of walking or standing.
• Require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crawling, bending, gripping, and reaching.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of tools.
• Must be able to perform physical exertion to manually move, lift, grip, carry, pull, or push heavy objects of materials up to 50 lbs and assist with team lifts for items over 51 lbs.
• Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, noise, and hazards year-round.
• Must work in and around dust, fumes, odors, and potentially hazardous materials or substances within safety protocol and guidelines.
• Must be able to drive a motor vehicle, with a valid IL driver's licence, and operate a variety of equipment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour
