We are seeking a skilled Senior Software Engineer to join our team and contribute to the development of innovative software solutions. You will be responsible for creating and maintaining applications that run on embedded Linux devices, interfacing with new and legacy hardware, and ensuring the security and functionality of our systems. Your expertise will help guide our production and support teams, troubleshoot technical issues, and improve our development processes through automation.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Product Management on system design and technical questions.

• Assist customer support in troubleshooting technical issues and customer equipment.

• Support engineering teams with testing and setting up tests in the lab.

• Develop and maintain software applications on embedded Linux devices within Docker containers and on internal servers.

• Interface with hardware using protocols such as TCP, UDP, IP, MQTT, RS232, and RS485.

• Work with various data types, manipulating data as bits/bytes.

• Create and maintain test cases for automated testing of software.

• Utilize git and git workflows for change tracking.

• Verify hardware compliance against specifications and document findings.

• Participate in product review meetings.

• Guide the Production/Repair team with manufacturing/setup queries.

• Update production build and test manuals with approved changes.

• Occasionally travel domestically to customer sites.

• Build and set up new development tools and infrastructure.

• Maintain automated test and deployment environments.

• Enhance development, test, and release processes through automation.

• Verify functionality and product compatibility of new firmware/software releases.

• Identify technical problems and develop software updates and fixes.

• Ensure systems are secure against cybersecurity threats.

• Provide Level 2 technical support to internal customers.

• Perform root cause analysis for released production software.

• Design and document procedures for system troubleshooting and maintenance.

• Manage software/firmware versions for multiple products.

• Construct and maintain a firmware/software compatibility matrix for all products.

• Generate documentation for system setup and management.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree.

• 8+ years of experience with hardware and software products.

• Proficiency in C/C++ with 5-7 years of experience.

• Experience with IoT projects for 2-3 years.

• Experience with cloud applications.

• Proficient in git workflows.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with Golang, microservices, Linux, and Docker.

• Knowledge of technology associated with security video and IoT products.

• Experience with MQTT.

• Experience with Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

• Experience in developing Fuel Management Systems.

This role involves working with a range of technologies, including embedded Linux devices, Docker containers, and various communication protocols. You will engage with both new and legacy systems, requiring adaptability and technical acumen. The position may require occasional domestic travel and involves collaboration with multiple teams to support and improve existing systems. Job Type & Location

This is a Contract position based out of Burr Ridge, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $63.00/hr.
