About us Open Door Health Center of Illinois is a regional, patient centered health care organization that provides services including education, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment services to those who have or are at risk for Sexually Transmitted Infections including HIV/AIDS, in addition to the greater LGBTQIA+ community. Open Door provides medical care, mental health care & case management services to people living with HIV/AIDS and their families. Our centers located in both Elgin and Aurora addressing primary care and specialized services to eliminate disparities in healthcare.
The Medical Benefit Coordinator monitors and assists clients of ODHC with accessing and maintaining their health insurance benefits/ADAP. This position assists with enrollment in the established open enrollment period (OEP) for the Affordable Care Act, Medicare and Medicaid programs. The Medical benefit specialist is responsible for application assistance with insurance coverage not related to employer-based coverage but can assist with application related to COBRA. During non OEP, the MBC assists with AIDS Drug Assistance Program eligibility applications for ODHC clients not enrolled in case management services and enrollment into Medicaid. Benefit Specialist will be on call case manager during Non-OEP and work in conjunction with the medical department for new referrals. Benefits Specialist will coordinate with the 340 program and assist in enrolling clients into the program. The benefits Specialist must obtain certification yearly as set forth by the Affordable Care Act and other public benefit sources.

- Assess clients every 6 months to determine level of need
- Assess intake referral for case management and for insurance/health benefits needs.
- Assist clients with enrollment in ACA, Medicare, Medicaid, and ADAP.
- Monitor and address issues related to case managed client's health benefits
- Coordinate medication and premium assistance with 340B program.
- Assist with IDPH/ADAP application for non-case managed clients
- Work in Tandem with insurance carriers to ensure client coverage is maintained through the designated time period.
- Submit payment request on behalf of clients
- Complete Financial assistance applications
- Data entry
- Complete 12 compliance trainings per year as required by our funders
Qualifications
- Minimum of High School Diploma needed
- Licensed Insurance Navigator/Certified Application Counselor (will be licensed after hire)
- Successfully complete the AFC Medical Case Management course once hired
- Knowledge of insurance, public benefits, and basic coverage concerns
- Experience working with diverse populations
- Experience with data entry
- Experience in Microsoft Suites ; Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
Preferred:
- Experience with insurance applications
- Experience with Medicaid, Medicare, ACA coverage
- Experience with EMR data entry
