The Grants Accounting Specialist plays a key role in the fiscal management and organization of grants at Waubonsee Community College. This position is responsible for all relevant accounting and financial functions for assigned grant portfolios, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and grantor regulations and supporting the college's overall financial processes The Grants Accounting Specialist reports to the Accounting Manager. Responsibilities Organize and manage all relevant accounting and financial functions for assigned grant portfolios. Prepare and submit all applicable grant fiscal reports (monthly, quarterly, and closeout) in a timely fashion. Research issues, analyze financial information, and provide data-driven recommendations to management. Comprehend current federal, state, and local grant regulations and ensure college compliance. Assist in the college's annual year end process. Support the college's annual audit on grants to ensure a clean and timely completion. Develop and maintain positive professional relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight with all internal and external stakeholders. Process budget transfer requests and assist with monitoring of budgetary transactions in the adopted college budget, as well as maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger records. Assist in the maintenance of the college's grant procedural manual and improvement of any current process to enhance efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related field preferred A minimum of two years' experience in accounting or related field required. Experience in fund accounting in an educational setting preferred. Familiarity with grant or project accounting particularly grants involving federal and state funds preferred. Skills in researching, analyzing, and evaluating complex financial data. Great organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to multi-task, prioritize and work independently in a continuously changing environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to work collaboratively within a diverse campus community. Proficient computer skills (including Microsoft Excel and Word) preferred.
