Respiratory Therapist Job Details

• Healthcare Setting: Acute care hospital (Level 1 Trauma Center, Magnet Designation)
• Location: Oak Lawn, Illinois 60453 (Chicago metro area)
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts
• Hours per week: 36
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (locum tenens respiratory therapist job)
• Start Date: October 27, 2025
• End Date: January 24, 2026
• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Expectations: 1 holiday per contract
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2,070 - $2,120 per week

Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent hospital-based RRT experience (ICU experience required)
• Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential
• Current BLS certification
• Proficiency with EPIC EMR (recent experience preferred)
• Experience with ventilators (Servo-U, Servo-I, Hamilton), BiPAP/CPAP (V60), and high-flow oxygen devices
• ABG draw and analysis experience (Gem 5000)
• Ability to assist with intubation, weaning/extubation, and bronchodilator therapies
• First-time healthcare travelers welcome!

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

• Deliver respiratory care to acute adult patients in ICU and PCU settings
• Manage ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP, nebulizers, and specialty gases (Nitric Oxide, Heliox)
• Perform ABG draws and analysis; assist with intubation, weaning, and extubation
• Administer bronchodilator medications and high-flow oxygen therapy
• Float to various hospital units as needed
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including 24/7 RT and hospitalist support
• Complete a 12-hour day orientation prior to starting night shifts
• Maintain infection control standards (no artificial nails or extenders; natural nail tips < ¼ inch)
