Located just outside Chicago, this company is a powerhouse in the design and manufacturing of heavy-duty, American-made machinery for the railroad industry. With complete in-house capabilities—from axles to frames to final assembly—this is an exciting opportunity to take full ownership of engineering projects. They are currently seeking a Chief Engineer – Heavy Equipment Manufacturing to lead hands-on product development from start to finish, working on construction-type equipment in a role that offers real impact and variety. Qualifications and responsibilities for this Chief Engineer – Heavy Equipment Manufacturing position include:- Minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic engineering for heavy or construction-type machinery- Full-project experience from design through assembly; must understand entire systems, not just components- Proficiency with SolidWorks for complete product design and documentation- Strong mechanical aptitude with a deep understanding of how machines function and fit together- Ability to lead, coordinate, and collaborate with a small team of engineers (3 currently on staff)- Comfortable with on-site, hands-on engineering in a manufacturing environment (not remote)- Engineering degree preferred but not required with sufficient experience and expertise- Must be capable of effective communication and technical leadershipSalary: $125,000 - $150,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
