TITLE: Database Developer I
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Manager, Database Development
BASIC FUNCTIONS:
Provide database development and analytical support for assigned projects. Assist in the implementation of applicable computer software needs. Ensure data integrity and quality control of American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) databases. Create, maintain, and enhance application data requirements, integrations, and business intelligence (BI) solutions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct data analysis for the complete tasks assigned to meet deadlines of AAP projects.
- Assist in the development and implementation of any conversion strategies and programs for relevant projects.
- Create and modify stored procedures and queries as needed.
- Assist in managing AAP data and perform system analysis to ensure data ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity.
- Expand reporting capabilities to service AAP staff through implementation of BI technologies.
- Provide technical assistance to users with business applications and BI implementations. Escalate advanced questions as appropriate.
- Provide timely response and resolution of emergency production questions, issues, and defects.
- Participate in collective ownership to ensure data security and performance.
- Embrace and practice agile Scrum principles as defined by the team.
- Maintain documentation and details on project work.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
EXPERIENCE:
At least two years of SQL database reporting, support, or development in Microsoft SQL Server 2016 thru 2019 required, either in a work or academic setting. Experience with relational databases and data analysis required, as well as extensive knowledge of Transact-SQL (TSQL) language. Experience with one of the following or equivalent technologies is required: SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) package programming; SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) development; and/or Power BI modeling and development. Knowledge of object-oriented programming C#, .NET, Python, Azure data fundamentals a plus.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS:
Excellent organizational, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, customer service, and oral/written communication skills required. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, take initiative, pay close attention to detail, utilize virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams), work both independently and as part of a team, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Must demonstrate ability to learn and grow. Ability to learn and work effectively with databases in a .NET web application environment and learn other programming languages and applications essential. Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) or other Association Management Software (AMS) platforms such as netForum is a plus. Must work well within a team environment. Some weekend work may be required.
Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
