Non-Agency Underwriter - Jumbo & Non-QM

About This Role

We run a high-velocity, non-agency lending operation. Our underwriters make fast, guideline-based decisions on Jumbo and Non-QM files and keep the pipeline moving. We close loans. We do not perform forensic audits on files that qualify.

If you are looking for a place to add three rounds of conditions to a straightforward bank statement loan, send LOE requests because a deposit looked 'interesting,' or agonize over files that clearly meet guidelines — this is not the job for you.

What You Will Do

• Underwrite Jumbo (up to $3M+) and Non-QM loans: bank statement, DSCR, asset depletion, P&L, and ITIN programs
• Render clear approve/suspend/deny decisions with guideline citations — every time
• Maintain 500+ decisions per year
• Collaborate directly with the sales team to solve problems, not create them
• Review conditions quickly; escalate only what genuinely requires escalation
• Stay current on investor overlays, program matrix changes, and guideline updates
• Own your calls — including when someone proves you wrong

Required

• 3+ years non-agency underwriting experience (Jumbo and/or NQM — bank statement, DSCR, asset depletion, or similar)
• Technical knowledge of non-agency/investor guidelines at a granular level
• Demonstrated ability to make fast, high-volume decisions without paralysis
• Strong logical reasoning — you follow rules as written, not as you think they were intended
• Ability to handle sales team pressure professionally while holding or updating your position with evidence

Strongly Preferred

• FHA/VA DE or SAR designation
• Familiarity with NQM program structures: personal and business bank statement, DSCR, P&L-only, foreign nationals
• Jumbo overlay experience across multiple investors
• LOS proficiency (Encompass, BytePro, or equivalent)
