Description

Under general direction, the Program Director (Wellness Professional) serves as the principal manager for the Office of Correctional Medicine’s (OCM) wellness programs and programming. This position is responsible for the development, coordination, implementation and maintenance of wellness programs for the OCM and its partners and stakeholders. Collaborates with internal and external resources to delivery of best practice information and processes. This position also represents SIU School of Medicine (SOM) Office of Correctional Medicine’s interests in all things related to wellness.

Examples of Duties

Administration – 100%

  • Designs, coordinates, and executes health and wellness initiatives, classes, workshops and programs for the Office of Correctional Medicine and its partners and stakeholders; directs the physical planning and logistics of wellness program areas; initiates and sets goals for wellness programs according to OCM’s strategic objectives and growth and expansion.
  • Develops procedures and policies and directs the compilation and maintenance of procedure manuals and information materials. Assists the Executive Director on high-level confidential special projects and operational and administrative priorities; serves on expansion initiative committees and workgroups.
  • Plans and directs logistics for all OCM wellness events and functions; directs and educates staff on preparation and execution of events and functions.
  • Manages and prepares short-term and long-term strategic, organizational and budgetary planning and working documents for the OCM relating to OCM wellness programming; tracks program outcomes, collecting data, and evaluating the effectiveness of wellness initiatives.
  • Responsible for planning and preparation for presentations, videos, brochures and other materials; coordinates all details of wellness educational programs, including researching and selecting appropriate educational content, assembling program materials, scheduling all programs and speakers, follow up with all current and potential partners and stakeholders.
  • Serves as supervisor of direct reports; assigns and reviews work; provides guidance and training; approves time off and reassigns staff to meet operating needs; counsels staff regarding work performance; recommends and imposes discipline; establishes objectives and prepares performance evaluations; determines staffing requirements. Manages and ensures that employees are complying with company policies and industry and best practice standards.
  • Fosters relationships with multiple groups and organizations to obtain and maintain OCM’s role of high standards in the field of correctional medicine; acts as primary liaison to partners and stakeholders on administrative programs and represents the Executive Director on committees and work groups.
  • Maintains an overall awareness of organizational activities of import or impact to the designated member(s) of the unit staff and the unit; develops and trains OCM staff and partners on ethical, compassionate and non-judgmental aspects and techniques needed in the performance of services.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

Minimum Acceptable Qualifications

CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position. (Note: Master’s Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.
  • Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position, may be required.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
  • Skill in analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
  • Skill in scheduling events, programs, and activities, as well as the work of others.
  • Skill in oral and written communication
  • Ability to adjust actions in relation to others' actions.
  • Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense

  • Ability to analyze and develop guidelines, procedures and systems
