DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR
The Forest Preserve Foundation seeks a Development Coordnator to help advance the Foundation's overall fund development strategy. Founded in 2006, our mission is to engage in protecting and restoring the treasured natural habitats of the Forest Preserves of Cook County and to enhance the outdoor experiences of all communities., The Forest Preserve Foundation is an independent, 501(c)(3) charitable foundation dedicated to raising funds and in-kind resources to support new and innovative initiatives that help make the Forest Preserves of Cook County inviting and accessible for all.
Position Summary:
As a key member of a small and growing fundraising team, the Development Coordinator will provide essential development, administrative, and communications support across all fundraising activities. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role that offers meaningful exposure to multiple fundraising strategies and opportunities for professional growth within nonprofit development.
The ideal candidate thrives in an entrepreneurial environment, is comfortable managing competing priorities, and is eager to take initiative while supporting the Foundation’s day-to-day operations and long-term growth
Key Responsibilities:
- Fuel the Foundation's prospect pipeline by conducting research on individuals, organizations, foundations, and corporations
- Assist with the drafting and submission of foundation grant proposals, applications, and funder reports
- Maintain the accuracy and integrity of the CRM database (NEON ) by ensuring that all information is kept current and up to date
- Process and track donations, and prepare monthly gift reports
- Prepare acknowledgment letters and other correspondence to donors as directed.
- Prepare reports and materials for presentations and meetings (board, funder, and partner)
- Provide support to ensure the completion of annual reports, newsletters, informational materials, and other fundraising collateral.
- Support the planning and execution of fundraising events
- Maintain, update, and regularly refresh the Foundation’s website to ensure content is accurate, timely, and aligned with fundraising and communications priorities.
This role is designed to grow as the Foundation expands its fundraising efforts and is well-suited for a candidate who enjoys a roll-up-your-sleeves role and wants to build a strong foundation across multiple aspects of nonprofit fundraising and operations.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as communications, marketing, English, or a similar discipline
2-4 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit administration, communications, event coordination, marketing, or a related area; experience with fundraising events, individual giving campaigns, or grant seeking strongly preferred
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with strong organizational, research, and analytical abilities and the capacity to manage complex, multi-step projects
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, solve problems, and manage multiple priorities with a high level of accuracy and follow-through
Self-starter who works effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., NEON or similar). Experience working with WordPress, Adobe, Canva, is highly desired.
Positive attitude, adaptability, and enthusiasm for mission-driven work
Interest or experience in conservation, environmental stewardship, or parks and recreation is a plus
