Medical Surgical RN Job Details

• Location: Decatur, IL 62526 (Central Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Level II Trauma Center
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 9/29/2025 – End: 12/29/2025)
• Shift: Night shifts, 12 hours (18:00 – 06:30), 3 or 4 shifts per week
• Hours per Week: 36
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $2000-$2050
• Patient Population: Adults & Geriatrics, Avg. Daily Census: 35
• Charting System: Cerner
• Scrub Colors: Blue, black, or gray
• Parking: Free with permit

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Medical Surgical RN experience (travel nursing experience required)
• Active Illinois RN license or proof of application (Illinois nursing jobs)
• Current BLS certification (AHA or Red Cross only)
• Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting
• Experience in cardiac monitoring, telemetry, and rapid response teams
• Strong skills in GI, genitourinary/renal, IV therapy, medication administration, and respiratory care
• Wound care, wound vac, and isolation precautions experience
• Ability to float within the hospital and to affiliate hospitals as needed
• Availability to work every other weekend and 2 out of 3 major holidays
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
• First-time travel nurses not accepted

Medical Surgical RN Responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a busy Med/Surg unit
• Monitor and respond to cardiac and telemetry events
• Manage GI, renal, and respiratory cases (colostomy care, feeding tube management, pre/post hemodialysis, tracheostomy management, CPAP/BiPAP, oxygen therapy)
• Administer medications (Heparin, Insulin, PCA) and manage IV therapies (port access, blood product administration, central/PICC line management)
• Provide wound care and manage wound vacs
• Follow isolation precautions and infection control protocols
• Float to other units or affiliate hospitals as needed to meet patient care demands
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams (IV, PT, RT, pharmacy, social services, rapid response)
• Document patient care accurately using Cerner
