Job Description Electrical Engineer - Solar
We are seeking a skilledElectrical Engineer with strong analytical, design, and project coordination skills to join our growing Solar team. The ideal candidate will bring 3+ years of experience in electrical design or engineering coordination experience within a fast-paced, collaborative environment, ideally within the renewable energy sector. This role will coordinate the engineering aspects of community solar projects, collaborating closely with electrical, civil, geotechnical, and structural teams from design through construction. This role ensures integrated, efficient designs that meet utility requirements, AHJ codes, and project schedules while supporting seamless delivery in the field.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinate electrical system design for community solar PV projects, including array layouts, single-line diagrams, interconnection design and equipment specifications.
- Design and develop electrical systems for solar, commercial, industrial, and other projects, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, and low voltage systems.
- Create electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation using AutoCAD or relevant software.
- Collaborate with civil, geotechnical, and structural engineers to ensure integrated site plans, trenching/conduit plans, and structural support align with electrical requirements.
- Manage and review design deliverables from engineering consultants and EORs to ensure adherence to applicable codes, utility interconnection requirements, and project objectives.
- Coordinate with the preconstruction team, project team, other engineers and contractors to ensure accurate design integration.
- Provide technical support to project managers and field teams during permitting, procurement, construction, and commissioning phases.
- Assist in preparing project estimates, budgets, and schedules.
- Support procurement processes by preparing, reviewing and tracking submittals and vendor specifications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues during pre-construction, construction and post-installation phases.
Preferred Experience:
- 3+ years of electrical design or engineering coordination experience, preferably in the solar PV or renewable energy industry.
- Experience coordinating with civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines in a design or construction environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD.
- Solid understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety standards.
- Experience with project scheduling and CPM is a plus.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or related field.
- PE license (or EIT with intention to obtain PE) is preferred but not required.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and electrical design software (e.g., SKM Power Tools, ETAP).
- Handle multiple priorities, duties, jobs/projects, and responsibilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, critical decision-making abilities.
