THE IMPACT YOU CAN HAVE:

This is a pivotal role in leading the design and orchestrating the implementation of Enterprise Portfolio Management playbook within the Enterprise Transformation Office at Ulta Beauty. The role will focus design and integrate the portfolio and its ways of working across the enterprise strategic planning process, annual planning, enterprise resource planning, integrated roadmap, execution planning as well as risk and dependency management to ensure coordinated delivery of overall strategic execution plans for large enterprise-wide initiatives. A key responsibility of this role is to distill complex and often ambiguous information into clear, compelling narratives and storytelling tailored for executive audiences—enabling alignment, collaboration, and strategic buy-in across cross-functional and leadership stakeholders. This role will collaborate with the broader Enterprise Strategy & Transformation team, Finance Planning & Analysis (FP&A) leadership and executive business partners across the enterprise to lead integrated portfolio management, ensuring continuity in communications and outputs across teams and business functions. It will also work closely with the Transformation Office leadership to prepare for and drive portfolio reviews and executive reporting.

The Senior Manager, Enterprise Portfolio Management must demonstrate strong critical thinking to lead through ambiguity and drive interconnections across the portfolio. This role should have the ability to influence at all levels in the organization and drive change management to ensure adoption of portfolio management best practices across a large set of cross-functional stakeholders. This is a leadership role that may also require the ability to coach and manage portfolio and program managers, with or without direct authority.

YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH THESE GOALS BY:

  • Collaborates with executive business partners to facilitate program roadmap development and ongoing evaluation – contributing to content creation and identifying and testing key hypotheses around integrated portfolio execution.
  • Validates and synthesizes portfolio performance for executive audiences (and cascading across teams), identifying and highlighting risks / mitigations and opportunities to drive greater value.
  • Identify and manage critical interdependencies, determine areas of risk, and provide the level of portfolio leadership to successfully deliver projects.
  • Support prioritization and track progress against objectives.
  • Leads implementation of ongoing updates to long-term and annual plans by implementing a structured process to consistently capture, trace, and communicate changes.
  • Partners with Transformation Office, Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), and business teams to ensure updates to the long-term and annual plans are captured in program development, impact evaluation, and benefit realization stages.
  • Drive integrated portfolio planning by pulling together inputs from cross-functional business stakeholders, Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A), Enterprise Insights & Analytics as well as Value Realization team within Enterprise Transformation to enable prioritization, sequencing and trade-off decisions to maximize return on the portfolio of investments as well as ensure communication back to key stakeholders.
  • Experience presenting and reporting on integrated project plans and cost benefit analyses and sharing out to stakeholders.
  • Develops and manages practices to drive the planning process focused on transformation programs.
  • Directs own team to apply critical thinking and provide subject matter expertise / industry best practices related to annual planning and governance as they pertain to transformations programs.
  • Designs and facilitates working sessions for cross-functional teams and business leaders to identify opportunities to deliver and/or exceed goals.
  • Leads the Project Management Community of Practice, with Transformation Office capabilities, to establish a central place for capability building and governance structures.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining governance structure for strategic planning processes, aligned with best-in-class practices.
  • Develops and provides mentoring to staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.

THE ESSENTIALS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in strategy, portfolio management and/or Finance preferably in a strategy consulting company or equivalent position in beauty and/or a retail environment.
  • Experience in strategic / management consulting preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading teams (directly or indirectly) to execute highly complex initiatives of significant scope, scale and risk in a retail environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of portfolio management, program management, change management and strategic capabilities.
  • Strong knowledge of internal planning and reporting processes.
  • Ability to facilitate cross-functional working sessions.
  • Experience identifying operational issues and recommending strategies to resolve problems.
  • Demonstrated ability to complete quantitative and qualitative analysis and apply strategic frameworks to drive alignment and decision-making.
  • Highly collaborative with track record of effective cross-functional leadership and proven ability to influence at all levels.
  • Enterprise thinker with ability to ‘connect the dots.’
  • Bias for action and execution.

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines and make ongoing decisions with key stakeholder input.

HYBRID POSITION: LOCATED IN BOLINGBROOK, IL

The pay range for this position is $119,300.00 - $165,000.00 / Year with the opportunity for eligible associates to earn additional compensation pursuant to the Company’s bonus plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including, but not limited to relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business and organizational needs. Full-time positions are eligible for paid time off, health, dental, vision, life and disability benefits. Part-time positions are eligible for dental, vision, life, and disability benefits.
