The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is seeking an Assistant Director of the National and International Scholarships Program in the Campus Center for Advising and Academic Services. The Assistant Director will advise students in preparation for applying to nationally and internationally competitive scholarship opportunities. This position will be responsible for the advertising and recruiting segment of the scholarship portfolio, in addition to the coordination of faculty/staff campus committees and participation in scholarship committee interview panels.Duties & Responsibilities
Coaching/Advising
• Advise undergraduate freshman and sophomore students regarding opportunities available during the undergraduate experience that help them prepare to be competitive candidates for nationally and internationally competitive awards, including academic coursework, research opportunities, professional and leadership opportunities, community and campus service experience, and personal growth.
• Advise undergraduate junior and senior students and recent alumni regarding nationally and internationally competitive scholarship opportunities available to support postgraduate educational opportunities, including for graduate study, research, internships, and teaching English abroad.
• Review candidate qualifications and application materials in order to provide feedback to student applicants regarding the intellectual, biographical, and personal content of scholarship application biographical forms and essays, including feedback on the substance and quality of writing.
Communication
• Inform students and recent alumni from all colleges about nationally competitive awards (such as the Fulbright, Truman, Marshall, and Goldwater), the advising services provided by the National and International Scholarships Program, and campus application processes and deadlines.
• Build and maintain multiple cross-campus relationships, including with the Jeffries Center, Scholar Support Programs, the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations, and ROTC, to identify and pursue opportunities to inform underrepresented student populations about nationally and internationally competitive opportunities for which they may be eligible, about the advising services provided by the National and International Scholarships Program, and campus application processes.
• Identify, obtain, and update internal student and staff data sources and tools for effective mass-communication.
Events and Programming
• Design, advertise and conduct proposal writing workshops for promising candidates.
• Identify and establish connections with academic departmental and college-level scholarship committees to identify potential scholarship candidates and to serve on volunteer committees in evaluating student application materials.
• Participate in on-campus interviews with faculty and staff expert panels, draft evaluations, and publicize results.
• Participate as a member of professional associations for continuing education, including the National Association for Fellowship Advisors and the University of Illinois Academic Advising community.
Required Qualifications
• Master’s or other advanced degree
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously with little supervision
• Experience collaborating effectively with students and faculty
Preferred Qualifications
• PhD or EdD
• Experience working with students
• Experience working with foundations or agencies that award scholarships.
• Experience working with key issues related to teaching, mentoring and advising high-achieving, motivated young scholars especially those from diverse backgrounds
• Previous international and research experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Discretion, organizational skills, and attention to detail are essential as is the ability to work under deadlines
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the close of the search. The budgeted salary range for this position is $55,000-$63,000. We strive to provide a competitive salary, considering factors such as available market data, internal equity, candidate experience and qualifications, collective bargaining agreements, and budget constraints. The final salary offer will be determined through a thorough assessment of these elements.Application Procedures & Deadline Information
