Position Summary
The Policy, Practice and Prevention Research Center (P3RC) at UIC's School of Public Health is seeking a Visiting Research Specialist to support a project that provides technical assistance and leadership to the Illinois Department of Public Health on their Public Health Infrastructure Grant. The Visiting Research Specialist will contribute to the management of project activities, including data collection, management, and analysis and planning and facilitation of meetings and events with internal and external partners. The Visiting Research Specialist will help guide and develop strategic collaborations with local, state, and other public health partners throughout the state, while creating and maintaining professional relationships through effective communication with the P3RC team, the funding agency, and partner agencies. These efforts will support a statewide public health workforce transformation initiative. Some travel throughout Illinois will be required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Research (Scholarly Public Health Practice)
- Under leadership of the project director, design and implement surveys, interviews, and literature/document reviews to support project and statewide health workforce transformation activities.
- Collect, process, and analyze survey and interview data using qualitative and quantitative methods to inform statewide project activities.
- Apply research and evaluation findings toward project improvement and the production of presentations, training curriculum, or other products associated with the project.
- Monitor project execution and propose and implement changes as needed.
Coordination and Communication
- Provide coordination of project communication activities, including scheduling and facilitation of meetings with internal and external teams, note taking, and tracking of project activities.
- Support planning and implementation of events with partners throughout Illinois, including setting event agendas, securing venues, and managing associated logistics.
- Assist in communication and coordination of and with external partners, including but not limited to the leadership and staff at the Illinois Department of Public Health and local health departments throughout the state.
- Provide support to project staff and research assistants in delivery of project activities.
- Prepare and conduct presentations and develop reports based on project findings in accordance with funder requirements.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
Staff Management
- Assist in the training and supervision of research assistants in the completion of project activities.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in social science or related field.
- A minimum of 3 years related research experience.
- Possess and apply advanced knowledge of research and public health practice principles, concepts, practices and methods.
- Master's degree in social science or related field
- Knowledge and experience working with state/county/local departments of public health.
- Experience acting as primary liaison with external partners.
- Experience with systems thinking or strategic planning.
The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $80,000, commensurate with experience.
