About the Position

A healthcare facility in Urbana, Illinois is seeking a skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join the Observation/Medical Unit (T6). The RN will provide patient-centered care using the nursing process, supporting short-stay and observation patients while collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to ensure quality outcomes.

This role requires strong clinical judgment, adaptability, and the ability to work in a fast-paced Med/Surg observation environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to assigned patients utilizing the nursing process.
• Perform initial patient assessments and develop individualized care plans.
• Implement and evaluate nursing interventions and modify care plans as needed.
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation .
• Monitor and assess IV sites every 4 hours and initiate IV access per policy.
• Identify changes in patient condition and respond appropriately.
• Ensure patient and staff safety by addressing hazards and reporting incidents.
• Collaborate with physicians and healthcare teams to coordinate care.
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and care needs.
• Participate in departmental competencies, audits, and staff meetings.

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 1 year of RN experience in a hospital setting
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN)

Preferred:

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

Required Certifications & Licensure:

• Active Illinois RN License (in good standing)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA)

Additional Requirements:

• Experience in a Trauma Level I facility required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Ability to float to similar units as needed
• Must work every other weekend (6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule)
• Must work every other holiday
