Position Overview

Memorial Health System is seeking an experienced Oncology / Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) for a 13-week assignment at a 562-bed, Magnet-designated, Level I Trauma acute care hospital in Springfield, Illinois. This is a mixed general medical floor with oncology and hospice as primary specialties, offering the opportunity to care for adult and geriatric patients in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.

Unit Details

• 24-bed inpatient oncology unit
• Average daily census: 24
• Patient population: Adults & Geriatrics
• Every other weekend required
• Floating required as needed
• Charting system: Cerner
• Interdisciplinary support includes PT, Respiratory, Pharmacy, Social Services, Rapid Response Team, Radiology, and more

Key Responsibilities

• Administration and monitoring of chemotherapy (IV push, continuous infusion, oral)
• Safe handling and disposal of cytotoxic agents and management of spills
• Central line and port access/management
• Blood and blood product administration
• IV therapy, including antifungals, antivirals, and coagulation factors
• Recognition and communication of abnormal lab values
• Symptom management (nausea/vomiting, neuropathy, edema, dysphagia, altered mental status, etc.)
• Psychosocial support and patient/family education
• Hospice and end-of-life care when applicable

Requirements

• Active Illinois RN license (in hand or in process)
• Minimum 1 year of RN experience
• Oncology experience required (ONC certification not required)
• Experience with chemotherapy administration required
• BLS (as required by facility)
• Ability to manage 1:6–7 patient ratio

Preferred Qualifications:

• ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Certification
• OCN Certification
• Previous charge experience
• Teaching hospital and/or Level I trauma experience
