Purpose
AbbVie’s Corporate Communications team is responsible for enterprise internal and external communications to enhance and protect AbbVie’s reputation. The team seeks a director to lead communications for AbbVie’s Operations Transformation and Product Development, Science & Technology (PDS&T) organizations, and to serve as a key leader on its Global Operations Communications team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and executing strategic, internal and executive communications across AbbVie’s Operations Transformation and PDS&T functions and for providing support for enterprise initiatives, such as Operations AI and automation adoption.
The successful candidate will also supervise the team responsible for cyber incident response and data privacy communications and develop communications strategies to support strategic and change management priorities. This role reports to the Director of Global Operations Communications.
Responsibilities include:
- Leads internal, external and executive communications for Operations’ Product Development, Science and Technology (PDS&T) and Transformation functions and their respective executives and senior leadership teams.
- Manages major change management communication campaigns across Operations, including Operations’ function-wide Transformation.
- Supports development and execution of communications strategies to support the AbbVie enterprise and Operations organization aligned with enterprise focus areas – including AI adoption, training, capital investment and automation.
- Manages the team responsible for cyber incident and data privacy incident communications.
- Supports capability building across the Operations Communications team that elevates our service offering, ensures process efficiencies and enables seamless execution.
- Interfaces and aligns with various functions, including Commercial, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Finance, Government Affairs and Senior Management.
- Supports project management across the Operations Communications team that elevates team alignment, ensures process efficiencies and enables seamless execution.
- Manages agencies and associated program budgets that support communications programming
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, business, journalism or equivalent
- 15+ years of experience in corporate communications with expertise in developing and executing strategic communications programs that are data and insight-driven.
- Strong executive presence and proven track record of working directly with senior executives on communication approaches and personal styles
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and judgment with an ability to interact effectively and professionally while managing multiple projects and tight deadlines.
- Strong communication planning, execution and project management skills and exceptional interpersonal skills to quickly build rapport and credibility with senior executives and key internal and external stakeholders.
- Business acumen to appropriately frame the why and contextualize communications priorities that strategically align with business priorities
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team and navigate a highly matrixed organization using influence/negotiation and relationship management skills
- Scientific acumen to understand complex concepts and translate for target audiences and channels
- Experience working and communicating in a manufacturing, logistics or engineering setting, with biopharmaceutical experience a plus.

The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is eligible to participate in our long-term incentive programs.
