Staff Accountant
Winpak Division is seeking a Staff Accountant to join the Finance team based out of Pekin, Illinois.
The Staff Accountant plays a key role on the finance team, helping ensure the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the company’s financial records. With a strong focus on managing the full fixed asset lifecycle and supporting general ledger activities, this role is essential to high-quality financial reporting. The Staff Accountant ensures asset-related transactions and core accounting processes comply with IFRS standards while partnering with internal teams to support management reporting, audits, intercompany accounting, and other financial analyses as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Fixed Assets & Capital Accounting
- Manage the full fixed asset lifecycle, including construction in progress (CIP), asset capitalization, disposals, and monthly depreciation.
- Maintain accurate fixed asset records for both internal (book) and tax reporting in compliance with IFRS.
- Analyze CIP activity against approved capital spend and investigate variances.
- Prepare monthly capital spending analysis and forecasts to support business planning.
- Ensure assets are placed in service accurately and on a timely basis.
Intercompany & Tariff Accounting
- Serve as the primary point of contact at the Pekin location for intercompany transactions across Winpak.
- Record and reconcile intercompany A/R and A/P balances monthly and prepare quarterly related-party schedules.
- Track raw material imports from sister companies and validate tariff costs incurred.
- Review, reconcile, and record weekly tariff invoices and monthly ACH tariff payments.
- Monitor tariff refunds, corrections, and period-end accruals tied to import activity.
General Accounting, Close & Business Support
- Prepare and post recurring journal entries, including payroll, prepaid expenses, and other month-end adjustments.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and support timely and accurate period-end close.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts and maintain pricing updates in the ERP system as needed.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, audits, and ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Provide backup support for Accounts Payable and assist with other accounting initiatives as required.
Required Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in accounting (Degree or diploma or completion of an equivalent training program in accounting)
- 3+ years of experience in an accounting role, with a preference for experience in the manufacturing industry
- 3+ years of experience with proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, formulas)
- 3+ years of experience in engaging effectively within the finance and accounting team
- Ability to work onsite full time
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience working independently with minimal supervision, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and accurately within tight deadlines
- 3+ years of experience demonstrating strong communication (both verbal and written), and organizational skills.
- 3+ years of experience working with ERP systems and management information systems to ensure data integrity in fixed asset.
Additional Details:
- This is a full-time permanent position & the selected candidate will work 100% onsite
Compensation Range: $53,000-$68,000
