The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago is seeking a pediatric neuropsychologist who will join a multidisciplinary child and adolescent psychiatry department to work with children and adolescents followed in the Pediatric Neurosurgery subspecialty clinics for pediatric neurovascular disease, with potential opportunities to work with patients with epilepsy and brain tumors. This is full-time non-tenure-eligible Clinician-Educator faculty level position.
The successful applicant will have Duties include:
1) conducting screenings, consultations, and evidence-based neuropsychological evaluations of children and adolescents with medical, psychiatric, and neurodevelopmental disorders
2) teaching in multidisciplinary child health and mental health training programs
3) engagement in research or other scholarly activities
Qualified candidates will have obtained a PhD from a clinical psychology training program and completed an APA-approved internship specializing in clinical child or pediatric psychology. The individual will also have completed a fellowship in pediatric neuropsychology and be board certified or eligible for board certification in clinical neuropsychology. Experience with children/adolescents with endocrine and genetic disorders is preferred; experience with other medical populations is highly desirable. Spanish fluency is also highly desirable.
K.S.A.'s:
- Minimum education required to perform job: a doctoral degree in clinical psychology with appropriate internship and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in clinical child neuropsychology. If degree is in a related area (e.g., human development) must have completed APA approved internship.
- Required licensure and/or certification: Must be licensed in the State of Illinois prior to start date. If employee is license-eligible, employee must obtain license and be granted clinical privileges before start date.
- Experience conducting neuropsychological examinations in the context of pediatric epilepsy care, and collaborating with a pediatric epilepsy surgical planning team.
- Experienced in creating appropriate paradigms for fMRI exams and well versed in their administration.
- Experience in the design, administration, and analysis of functional imaging examinations such as fMRI, MEG, and EEG-fMRI.
- Experience in design, administration, and analysis of other functional brain mapping examinations using techniques such as Wada, subdural grid electrical stimulation, awake intra-operative language mapping, and Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation.
- Understanding of the MRI environment and able to collaborate with the MR technologist, MR physicist, and neuroradiologist.
- Knowledge of the basic applications of advanced neuroimaging post-processing techniques.
- Trained in aspects of clinical and/or behavioral translational research.
- Ability to think proactively, act creatively, and take initiative appropriately. Excellent verbal and written communication, critical-thinking, and interpersonal skills.
- Documented track record of academic productivity/potential, including peer-reviewed publications and grant applications.
- Demonstrated ability to work as a part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Special physical requirements – sits and stands throughout the day. Physical management of patients in crisis situation may be necessary.
- Basic Life Support Certification required.
Job Duties:
- Conducts diagnostic evaluations using intellectual and neuropsychological testing measures; interprets test results.
- Designs protocols for monitoring the neurocognitive and emotional status of pediatric populations.
- Interfaces with outpatient clinic programs of Lurie Children’s medical services for the purpose of monitoring their patient populations.
- Conducts DSM diagnostic evaluations of children and adolescents.
- Uses neuropsychological test results to inform planning for pediatric epilepsy surgery.
- Participates in design, administration, and analysis of functional imaging examinations such as fMRI, MEG, and EEG-fMRI.
- Participates in design, administration, and analysis of other functional brain mapping examinations using techniques such as Wada, subdural grid electrical stimulation, and awake intra-operative language mapping. Ability to participate in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation examinations is desirable.
- Ability to conduct ADOS testing with clinical and/or research certification in administering the ADOS is desirable.
- Maintains appropriate and timely clinical documentation in the electronic medical record.
- Reports fMRI results in a consistent templated manner.
- Writes letters, notes, and formal clinical reports on patient contacts. Communicates progress over the telephone and via the electronic medical record, as appropriate.
- Provides individual, group, and family therapy to children, adolescents, and their families.
- Follows protocols and procedures of the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and Lurie Children’s Hospital.
- Participates in the APA-approved internship training program and training programs for psychology practicum students and fellows, the social work student training program, and the child and adolescent psychiatry and general psychiatry residency program by preparing and presenting seminar topics and providing supervision to psychology trainees.
- Collaborates and consults with medical providers, schools, and social service agencies as well as city, county, and state funding and placement agencies through oral and written presentation of clinical findings and recommendations. Completes all case management duties of assigned cases including discharge planning, completion of the diagnostic evaluation and referrals to appropriate support services as needed.
- Participates in rounds, patient care conferences, diagnostic and treatment staffing team meetings, multidisciplinary case conferences, and discipline-specific team meetings.
- Engages in research related to pediatric neuropsychology and, when appropriate, in program evaluation. Scholarly activities and research related to the disorders encountered in their work or treatment approaches used in their clinical activities is strongly encouraged
- Provides supervision for varying numbers of participants in the APA approved internship training program.
- Assists in training and supervision of psych techs.
- Works with team members to provide appropriate coverage for scheduled absences.
- Maintains test equipment and supplies of the Neuropsychology service as state-of-the-art resources.
- Participates in continuing education events including hospital and department mandatory education courses and courses required to maintain professional certification/licensure requirements.
- Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
