Psych/MH Tech Job Details

• Location: Harvey, Illinois 60426 (Chicago area)
• Healthcare Setting: Adult Inpatient Behavioral Health (Locked Psychiatric Unit)
• Assignment Type: Locum Tenens (Travel/Contract)
• Start Date: September 15, 2025
• End Date: December 15, 2025
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Night Shift: 3x12-hour shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
• Hours per Week: 36 or 48 available
• Estimated Weekly Salary: $720 - $730
• Patient Population: Adults (18+ years)
• No on-call or float required

Psychiatric Technician Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience as a Psychiatric Technician, Mental Health Technician, or Behavioral Health Tech
• Experience in locked psychiatric units required
• Skilled in obtaining vital signs, applying 4-point restraints, and de-escalation techniques
• Group therapy session leadership experience preferred
• Strong therapeutic communication and crisis intervention skills
• CPR certification required; CPI certification preferred
• COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Ability to pass facility compliance and orientation requirements

Psych/MH Tech Responsibilities

• Monitor and ensure safety of adult patients in a locked behavioral health unit
• Obtain and document vital signs
• Apply and monitor restraints per safety protocols
• Utilize de-escalation and crisis intervention techniques
• Lead or assist with group therapy sessions (preferred)
• Conduct regular room and patient safety checks
• Support patients with daily living activities
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members
• Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
