The Sangamon County Court Services Department is accepting applications for a full-time position for Senior Detention Officer at the Sangamon County Juvenile Detention Center.The shift is unknown at this time, but you must have the ability to work all days and shifts as needed.

As directed, and in the absence of a supervisor, is responsible for insuring that all work assigned to the shift is handled properly and completely. Assigns daily tasks for staff and insures completion and quality of work. Performs intake investigations, custody services, and helps to plan, implement and evaluate programming on his/her respective shift.

You must have obtained a minimum of 60 credit hours from an accredited college, university or community college, preferably with major course work in criminal justice, psychology, sociology, social work, or related social sciences or a high school diploma with at least two years prior employment in law enforcement or experience in a residential care, specialized care, or detention facility. Applicants must be 21 years of age. Applicants must be on the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts hiring eligibility list at the time of employment offer. Must be a U.S. Citizen and have a valid driver’s license. Must pass a criminal and DCFS background check as well as a drug screening. YOU MUST HAVE THE ABILITY TO WORK ON ANY SHIFT.

Ability and desire to work with delinquent youth in a secure detention setting which may require physical restraint of minors; knowledge of the criminal justice system and ability to supervise staff.

Starting salary range of $62,252.00 - $69,399.00, health, dental, and life insurance; pension plan; deferred compensation option; paid vacation, sick and personal time.
