Job Description

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Sanitation Supervisor to oversee all sanitation operations within our food manufacturing facility. The ideal candidate will ensure the plant meets all regulatory, food safety, and quality standards while leading a team to maintain a clean, organized, and audit-ready production environment. This position plays a critical role in supporting the company’s food safety, quality assurance, and operational excellence goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement and maintain all sanitation policies, procedures, and SSOPs.
  • Review and update SSOP files annually to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Partner with chemical suppliers to conduct refresher training and ensure staff are up to date on sanitation practices.
  • Prepare the plant for QA inspection prior to each day’s production start-up — ensuring equipment is staged and ready for quick inspection and setup.
  • Conduct regular meetings with the plant’s chemical provider, plant manager, and USDA representatives to discuss sanitation findings and corrective actions.
  • Be available for USDA meetings as required.
  • Build, lead, and train an effective sanitation team capable of efficiently cleaning and maintaining all production areas.
  • Provide hands-on support during major cleaning activities as needed.
  • Oversee and audit the facility’s pest control program through vendor management and performance reviews.
  • Take prompt corrective action for any sanitation deficiencies identified during facility audits or pre-operation inspections.
  • Manage basic facility maintenance tasks such as caulking, light replacement, and filter changes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date sanitation records and reports.
  • Ensure fair and respectful treatment of all employees.
  • Develop and approve sanitation team schedules to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Participate in HACCP and SQF program management, maintaining compliance with all food safety and quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for sanitation effectiveness and efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Quality Assurance, or a related field preferred; Associate degree or equivalent experience accepted.
  • HACCP and GMP trained; experience with FDA Preventive Controls required.
  • Working knowledge of SQF or BRC audit standards.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in sanitation or quality within a food manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in a USDA-regulated facility strongly preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills for managing teams and interacting with regulatory officials.
  • Ability and willingness to perform physical tasks and support hands-on cleaning when necessary.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • English fluency required; Spanish language skills a plus.

Additional Information:

  • Opportunity to obtain SQF Practitioner and HACCP Certification if not already certified.
  • This role requires flexibility to work nights, weekends, or extended hours as needed to support production schedules.
  • Reports directly to the Plant Manager or Quality Manager.
