About the Role:
The Pharmacy Technician plays a critical role in supporting pharmacists to ensure the safe and efficient dispensing of medications to patients. This position involves accurately preparing and labeling prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining patient records in compliance with regulatory standards. The Pharmacy Technician serves as a key point of contact for patients, providing excellent customer service and assisting with medication-related inquiries under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. This role requires meticulous attention to detail to prevent errors and ensure patient safety. Ultimately, the Pharmacy Technician contributes to the overall healthcare team by facilitating smooth pharmacy operations and promoting positive health outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a Pharmacy Technician training program or equivalent work experience.
- Basic knowledge of pharmaceutical terminology and medication dispensing procedures.
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working as a Pharmacy Technician in a retail or hospital setting.
- Familiarity with pharmacy management software and electronic health records.
- Strong understanding of insurance billing and reimbursement processes.
- Additional certifications or continuing education in pharmacy-related fields.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a healthcare team.
- Certification as a Pharmacy Technician (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT) as required by state regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently.
- Verify prescription information and patient data to ensure accuracy and compliance with legal requirements.
- Manage inventory by ordering, receiving, and stocking medications and supplies.
- Maintain patient records and pharmacy documentation in accordance with privacy laws and company policies.
- Provide courteous and knowledgeable assistance to patients regarding prescription status and general medication information.
- Operate pharmacy software systems to process prescriptions and manage workflow.
- Ensure the pharmacy area is clean, organized, and compliant with safety and regulatory standards.

The required skills enable the Pharmacy Technician to accurately interpret prescriptions and prepare medications, ensuring patient safety and regulatory compliance. Strong organizational skills are essential for managing inventory and maintaining detailed records, which supports efficient pharmacy operations. Communication skills are used daily to interact with patients and healthcare professionals, providing clear and compassionate assistance. Proficiency with pharmacy software systems facilitates accurate data entry and prescription processing, reducing errors and improving workflow. Preferred skills, such as experience with insurance billing and advanced certifications, enhance the technician's ability to navigate complex pharmacy environments and contribute to higher quality patient care.
