Medical Assistant
We are seeking a Medical Assistant who will take ownership of the day-to-day clinical and operational flow of our Joliet clinic. This is not a passive support role. It is a hands-on, high-responsibility position for someone who is reliable, organized, professional, and able to work independently without constant direction.
You will serve as the primary point of contact for patients and a key support to the physicians, helping ensure that each day runs efficiently, professionally, and with close attention to detail. This role also includes responsibility as a clinic key holder, requiring exceptional punctuality, trustworthiness, and a high level of personal responsibility.
Core Responsibilities
Clinical Execution & Patient Care
- Perform thorough and efficient patient intake, including vitals, medical history, and medication reconciliation
- Maintain consistent clinical flow by anticipating physician needs and preparing patients appropriately
- Manage prescription refills, diagnostic orders, and referrals with accuracy and timely follow-through
Care Coordination & Communication
- Coordinate follow-up care for patients transitioning from inpatient rehabilitation
- Ensure all necessary records, documentation, and scheduling are completed without delays
- Communicate clearly and professionally with patients, families, hospital staff, nursing facilities, and pharmacies
Clinic Operations & Accountability
- Take responsibility for the daily organization and presentation of the clinic environment
- Support accurate and timely documentation in coordination with billing and administrative teams
- Identify workflow issues early and resolve them independently when appropriate
- Escalate concerns efficiently when needed, using sound judgment
- Open and secure the clinic responsibly as a designated key holder
What We Are Looking For
This role requires someone who is dependable, proactive, and takes their responsibilities seriously. We are not looking for someone who needs to be micromanaged. We are looking for someone who is able to recognize what needs to be done, take initiative, manage time well, and follow through consistently.
The right candidate will be comfortable in a patient-facing clinical environment and understand the importance of professionalism in both conduct and appearance. This includes presenting in a neat, well-groomed, and professional manner, while also engaging patients in a warm, respectful, and appropriate way.
Qualifications
- 1 to 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant in an outpatient or specialty setting, PM&R, Orthopedics, or Neurology preferred
- Strong EMR experience and solid understanding of medical terminology
- Strict adherence to HIPAA standards and confidentiality expectations
- Clear, professional, and respectful communication with all stakeholders
- Strong work ethic, punctuality, reliability, and accountability
- Excellent time management and the ability to stay focused in a fast-paced environment
- Organized, detail-oriented, and solution-focused mindset
- Ability to maintain a neat, polished, and professional presentation appropriate for a patient-facing medical practice
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with patients in a personable yet professional manner
- Ability to notice and manage small details that affect both patient experience and clinic operations
- Trustworthy and responsible, with the reliability required of a clinic key holder
Work Environment & Expectations
- Fast-paced clinical setting requiring focus, efficiency, and consistency
- High level of independence with clear expectations
- Direct collaboration with physicians and clinical staff
- A team culture built on respect, professionalism, and accountability
Our Values
We operate with integrity, respect, and a strong sense of responsibility to our patients and to each other. We aim to provide care that is not only clinically excellent but also thoughtful, professional, and consistent.
