Job Description

As a Geologist, you will be responsible for planning and executing field investigations, including soil borings, monitoring well installation, soil vapor sampling, and surface water/groundwater sampling. You will perform Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) to evaluate potential contamination using the IEPA Tiered Approach to Cleanup Objectives (TACO) and other Illinois standards. Additionally, you will develop and implement remedial strategies such as UST closures, excavation, and in-situ treatment, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly the IEPA Site Remediation Program and Leaking Underground Storage Tank Program, and Resource Recovery and Conservation Act Program.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute field investigations, including soil borings, monitoring well installation, and soil vapor sampling.

  • Conduct surface water and groundwater sampling.

  • Perform Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) to evaluate potential contamination.

  • Analyze results using IEPA Tiered Approach to Cleanup Objectives (TACO) and other Illinois standards.

  • Develop and implement remedial strategies like UST closures, excavation, and in-situ treatment.

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.

  • Prepare technical reports, work plans, and proposals, providing analysis of findings.

  • Coordinate with and supervise subcontractors to ensure high-quality data collection.

  • Communicate findings and project updates to clients and regulatory agencies.

  • Prepare high-quality deliverables, manage project deadlines, track project budgets, and handle invoicing.

Essential Skills

  • Field sampling and soil sampling expertise.

  • Proficiency in Geology and Environmental Science.

  • Strong report writing and data analysis skills.

  • Experience with environmental compliance and inspections.

  • 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training.

  • Ability to log soil/bedrock and oversee drilling rigs.

  • Strong Phase I and Phase II ESA skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • BS in Geology or Hydrogeology.

  • 3-7 years of environmental consulting experience.

  • Eligible to obtain Professional Geologist (PG) license within 1 year.

Work Environment

This position involves approximately 20-40% field/site work and will require applying geological expertise to environmental site characterization and remediation projects. The role acts as a bridge between junior field staff and senior project managers, with responsibilities in field investigations, data analysis, and technical reporting. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elmhurst, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $38.46/hr.
