Position Overview:

The Senior Software Engineer leads technical initiatives and drives engineering excellence across

our organization. This role combines technical expertise with leadership capabilities, focusing on

architecting scalable solutions while mentoring and growing the engineering team.

About Mobile Talent Team

The Mobile Talent team within PCTY's Mobile Organization is a key contributor to our flagship PCTY mobile app, which serves over 4 million users. This highly skilled team, consisting of expert Android, iOS, Backend, and Test engineers, is responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of essential features. Their work directly impacts crucial user journeys, including User Onboarding, Payroll approvals, Rewards & Recognition, General Admin access, and 401k administration, ensuring a comprehensive and efficient mobile experience for our extensive user base.

During the first six months you will:

• Collaborate with US and CZ based engineering teams to design backend solutions for Mobile Frontend
• Develop BackEnd for FrontEnd REST APIs in C# and connect with NoSQL databases such as (DynamoDB, MongoDB, Redis) and SQL databases such as (SQL Server, Aurora, Postgres)
• Use observability tools (such as DataDog/New Relic/ELK) to troubleshoot/trace issues and improve performance
• Advocate for best practices and a healthy balance of tech debt versus delivery
• Ensure code is flexible, reusable, extensible, performant, and high quality through feedback on code reviews by writing unit tests, integration tests, and load tests
• Work within the scope of a team and participate in driving cross-team collaboration
• Find innovative ways to increase the quality and velocity of engineering work
• Demonstrate passion for writing quality software
• Strengthen your team by sharing your knowledge and interests with others
• Build relationships and communicate with various types of stakeholders across the organization
• Identify risks, escalate priorities, and help to resolve issues that could impact production quality

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience
• Proven track record of leading significant technical initiatives
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Collaborative mindset with ability to influence peers
• Adaptable approach to changing requirements and priorities

Technical Experience:

• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing RESTful APIs (C# or Java)
• 2+ years of hands-on experience preferred with database development (NoSQL and SQL)
• 2+ years of experience developing cloud-native solutions (AWS/Azure/GCP)
• Basic understanding of fault tolerance, resiliency, error handling, and architectural patterns
• Experience with unit testing and integration test automation
• Able to work off-hours and weekends as part of On-Call rotation
• Passion for writing great, simple, clean, and efficient code

Nice To have:

• Docker, AWS EKS
• AWS Solutions Architect certification
• Prior experience designing backend for Mobile Frontend (Swift, Kotlin, Ionic, React Native)
• gRPC, GraphQL

Physical requirements:

• Ability to sit for extended periods: The role requires sitting at a desk or workstation for long periods, typically 7-8 hours a day.
• Use of computer and phone systems: The employee must be able to operate a computer, use phone systems and type. This includes using multiple software programs and inquiries simultaneously.
