Travel Cytotechnologist Job Details

• Location: Peoria, Illinois 61637 (Central Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Setting: Hospital – Pathology Laboratory
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks (September 22, 2025 – December 22, 2025)
• Shift: 8-hour day shifts
• Hours: 40 hours per week guaranteed (post-orientation)
• Employment Type: Travel Cytotechnologist position
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2870 - $2950

Cytotechnologist Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited cytology program
• Completion of a NAACLS-accredited cytology program
• ASCP Cytotechnologist (CT) certification required
• Minimum 3 years of cytology experience in a clinical or hospital setting
• Strong knowledge of cytology preparation techniques, biology, anatomy, and physiology
• Excellent analytical, clinical, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to maintain current ASCP certification and meet certifying agency requirements
• Must pass a comprehensive drug screen (drug-free campus policy)

Cytotechnologist Responsibilities

• Screen clinical specimen slides for cancer and pathological conditions; mark abnormalities and render preliminary diagnoses
• Refer cases for quality control or review by a pathologist as needed
• Perform routine quality control and participate in cellular evaluations for specimen adequacy and processing
• Prepare and process cell samples for microscopic examination; maintain laboratory solutions and reagents
• Microscopically examine cellular samples to detect abnormalities in cell size, shape, and color
• Receive, log, and accurately document all specimens
• Assist pathologists during fine needle aspiration procedures at the patient bedside
• Maintain detailed records and prepare statistical reports of laboratory work
• Participate in continuing education and instruct residents or laboratory students as needed
• Demonstrate values of compassion, timeliness, accuracy, thoroughness, and coordination in all professional interactions
• Adhere to all hospital safety protocols and quality assurance standards
