Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Mount Vernon, IL 62864 (Southern Illinois healthcare jobs)
• Assignment Type: Travel RN (Locum Tenens)
• Unit: Labor and Delivery, LDRP & Level II Nursery
• Shift: 12-hour nights (3:00 PM – 3:00 AM)
• Shifts per Week: 3x12s or 4x12s (36-48 hours/week)
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 9/8/2025, End: 12/8/2025)
• Patient Ratios: 1:3
• Average Deliveries: 140-160/month
• Weekend Coverage: Required (1 Friday, 1 Saturday, 1 Sunday per 4-week schedule)
• On-Site Amenities: Interdisciplinary clinical support, modern equipment, and a collaborative nursing team
• Estimated Weekly Salary Range: $2020-$2070

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor and Delivery RN experience (Level II nursery preferred)
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (Illinois RN license preferred for local candidates)
• BLS and NRP certifications required
• AWHONN (Advanced, Beginner, or Intermediate), STABLE, and FHM certifications preferred
• Experience with Epic charting system preferred
• Ability to float between labor, mother/baby, or as sitter on other units as needed
• COVID-19 vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)
• Must be able to complete OSHA Respirator Clearance and FIT testing (clean-shaven required for FIT test)
• Travelers must not reside within 70 miles of the facility

Labor and Delivery RN Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to laboring mothers, newborns, and postpartum patients
• Assist with vaginal deliveries, C-sections, and labor inductions
• Perform newborn assessments, hearing screens, and metabolic screens
• Administer medications, IVs, and blood products as needed
• Support breastfeeding and provide lactation education to new mothers
• Monitor and document patient status using Epic (preferred) or other clinical charting systems
• Participate in interdisciplinary rounds and collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals
• Float as needed between labor, mother/baby, and other clinical units
• Maintain a safe, supportive environment for patients and families
