Wahl Clipper Corporation, the world leader in cutting hair, has an exciting opportunity for a talented Industrial Designer to join our award-winning company, head quartered in Sterling, IL this summer. The Industrial Design Intern will be working part of a multi-disciplinary group that develops the next generation of products. This position is accountable for supporting the product design needs in New Product Development. In this role, it is imperative to understand needs of the end user and understand the latest trends in design. This is a full-time, paid summer internship position.

The Industrial Design intern must be a self-starter, motivated to learn and ask questions, and able to meet multiple deadlines regarding creating and prototyping designs. This individual must excel at free hand sketching, computer aided design, and building prototypes. They must have basic engineering skills in order to ensure manufacturability of the designs created.

Key Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, KeyShot
• Knowledge of digital sketching software.
• Working knowledge CAD software, Rhino preferred
• Working knowledge of human factors and ergonomics.
• Rapid development of prototypes. Both rough foam and high finish presentation models.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to clearly articulate ideas and thought process.
• Understand the unique perspectives of Marketing, Engineering, and Operations.
• Have passion for creating innovative products to satisfy end user needs.

The ideal person for this position has the following minimal requirements:

• Current undergraduate student or recently graduated from an accredited university
• Completed at least one year of college
• Strong visual communication skills, both quick hand and digital sketching, and rendering.
• Evaluate end users, and competitive products to develop cutting edge designs.
• Comfortable presenting his/her ideas and self-motivated.
• Currently enrolled in an accredited Industrial Design program.
• Basic understanding of Engineering and the Manufacturing processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, teamwork and communication skills
