Duane Deane - Who we are:

For over 50 years, Duane Dean Behavioral Health Center has provided substance use treatment, intervention and prevention services to adults who reside in Kankakee, Iroquois counties and throughout east-central Illinois. Working in collaboration with our management organization, Rincon Family Services, since 2017, we have expanded our services to include violence prevention, workforce development, mental health and welcome center services.

Position Description – What the Role Entails:

  1. The counselor in the MAR Clinic provides therapeutic support, education and intervention to patients undergoing treatment for opioid use disorder (OUD) utilizing Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) services for individuals undergoing treatment for substance use disorders. The counselor will assess the patient needs, deliver counseling services and help clients navigate their recovery journey through behavioral therapies and personalized care.
  2. The counselor will report to the clinical supervisor/director and will provide direct counseling and support services to patients participating in Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR) programs for opioid use disorders (oud).

Areas of Accountability - What you will be doing:

  1. Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments, diagnostic evaluations, develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients, updating treatment plans, continued stay reviews, case management services along with maintaining accurate and timely documentation in compliance with federal, state, and clinic regulations.
  2. Provide assigned weekly group counseling services using evidence-based practices.
  3. Monitor toxicology screens, patient progress in treatment, collaborate with the prescribing provider and nurses regarding medication compliance along with educating patients on the benefits of being responsible in the MAR program.
  4. Participate in clinical team meetings, staff meetings, continuing education courses, participate in regular supervision meetings with clinical supervisors as well as maintain timely patient records utilizing electronic medical records which include documenting in compliance with agency, state and federal guidelines.
  5. Perform all other duties assigned.

  1. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Pay attention to details. The ability to engage patients in a clinical and respectful manner. Enhance job skills through required training.
  2. Respect client autonomy, protect client privacy in accordance with HIPAA and 42CFR Part 2 regulations, avoid conflict of interest and maintain appropriate boundaries with clients, advocate and promote patient well-being along with supporting cultural humility and sensitivity.

Position Qualifications – What is required to Perform the Role:

  1. High School Diploma/GED required. Certification or licensure as a substance abuse counselor (e.g. CADC, LPC, LCSW or equivalent) or the ability to obtain certification or licensure within 2 years.
  2. Preferred skills, experience and qualifications: bachelor’s or master’s degree with at least 1-2 years’ experience in substance use or mental health services or related field. The ability to work within a team. Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of HIPAA along with working in an integrated care environment.

Duane Dean’s Work Environment – What to expect:

  1. On-site in the office with required travel from time to time.
  2. Counselor job demands the ability to carry files to and from desks, maintaining continuing education units as required to remain employed as a substance abuse counselor. Travel to Chicago sometimes for on-the-job training.

Schedule:

  1. The counselor works 40 hours a week, which includes some Saturdays depending on outreach needs.
  2. There is flexibility in the work schedule to meet the demands of outreach services as needed. Hours are approved by Director of Substance Use or Clinical Supervisor.

Language:

  1. Bilingual (Spanish) or English preferred.
