Job Description
We are looking for a Production Chemist to join our team for the 2nd shift on weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday) working from 1 or 2 pm to 11 pm or 12 am. This role involves working four 10-hour shifts. Initial training will be conducted on the 1st shift from Monday to Friday until the candidate is ready to transition to the weekend shift.
Responsibilities
- Perform chemical synthesis on a multi-kilo scale and execute tasks via batch records.
- Maintain documentation standards to meet GMP requirements, including recording of charges/transfers and acknowledging actions as they are performed.
- Document key observations related to specific operations.
- Set up, operate, and clean all plant equipment such as reactors, centrifuges, filter dryers, shelf dryers, and milling equipment.
- Participate in staging raw materials, loading raw materials into equipment, and unloading intermediates and products from dryers.
- Read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and correspond effectively in a group setting.
- Collaborate with Chemical Engineers to produce R&D Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API).
- Experience with chemical synthesis and multi-kilo scale operations.
- Proficiency in maintaining GMP documentation standards.
- Ability to operate and clean plant equipment.
- Competence in reading and interpreting documents, writing reports, and speaking effectively.
- Collaboration skills for working with Chemical Engineers.
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or engineering preferred; high school diploma with relevant industry experience accepted.
- Computer proficiency required.
- Experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, or food production facility preferred.
- Willingness to handle chemicals safely with engineering controls in place.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic math proficiency.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and use a respirator.
- Experience with SAP is a plus.
The role involves working on the 2nd shift during weekends, consisting of four 10-hour shifts from 1 or 2 pm to 11 pm or 12 am. Initial training will take place on the 1st shift from Monday to Friday. The company is small but growing, with recent investments enhancing production capabilities. The environment includes a small production area, with expansion underway. The R&D lab is connected to the QC lab, providing a unique opportunity for collaboration and growth. A 10% differential is offered for the 2nd shift after six months.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Morton Grove, IL.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hr.
