Job Summary:
The digital strategist is an integral member of the Digital and Web Strategy team in RUSH's Department of Marketing Communications. The individual in this role is responsible for executing digital and web strategies for a portfolio of assigned constituents and focus areas in RUSH Marketing Communications, which may include clinical service areas (patients), RUSH University (students), Philanthropy (benefactors), Human Resources (job seekers), RUSH Health (referring providers), business partnerships, and special projects.
Aligned with the overarching RUSH digital strategy, the Digital and Web Strategy team in RUSH Marketing Communications contributes to work on rush.edu, doctors.rush.edu, rushu.rush.edu, the My RUSH mobile app, and emerging properties and platforms, with an emphasis on early-stage journey phases: creating and nurturing relationships, inspiring engagement, and driving choice and conversions.
The digital strategist completes hands-on work in the domains of digital and web strategy, website management, digital analytics, search engine optimization, and project management. Further, the digital strategist works collaboratively with other members of RUSH Marketing Communications, including teams in Marketing Strategy, Strategic Internal Communications, Strategic External Communications, and Brand Strategy & Creative Media, as well as colleagues from other departments across RUSH and vendor partners. This individual exemplifies the RUSH mission, vision, and ICARE values and acts in accordance with all policies and procedures.
Job Responsibilities:
Digital projects (70%)
- Contribute hands-on to project execution under direction from senior team members
- Participate on project teams and workgroups, including occasionally coordinating work by RUSH Marketing Communications colleagues, freelancers, and vendor partners
- Create and maintain web pages and microsites using content management systems
- Serve as a point of contact for tasks that involve digital analytics, user experience (UX), and web design
- Contribute to elements of content writing, in collaboration with content strategy colleagues
- Monitor project health and identify emerging risks and opportunities
- Ensure completed work meets RUSH Marketing Communications standards and industry best practices
Digital strategy and planning (20%)
- Contribute to developing digital and web strategies as components of broader marketing plans
- Ensure ongoing alignment of strategies and projects with established marketing priorities, RUSH strategic priorities, the RUSH organizational digital strategy, and the RUSH brand
- Understand target audiences, user journeys, stakeholder expectations, and the competitive market to inform digital strategy development
- Create and maintain end-to-end project plans, including tasks, timelines, and key metrics
- Participate on RUSH Marketing Communications cross-functional teams for assigned areas
Digital measurement and continuous improvement (10%)
- Assist with analyzing and reporting on key performance indicators to colleagues and stakeholders, using data and insights to inform adjustments to strategies
- Stay up to date on digital trends and innovations within both health care and other consumer-centric industries and apply them to digital work at RUSH
- Embrace a department-wide culture of collaboration and performance excellence by contributing to integrated planning, process development and improvement, and shared tools and technologies
Required Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or a related field.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in digital strategy, marketing, communications, or similar roles. Experience at an academic medical center or college/university is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to move throughout the RUSH campus.
- Ability to lift or carry objects 35-40 pounds.
Competencies:
- Experience across digital and web strategy, website management, digital analytics, search engine optimization, and project management
- Understanding of web-based tools and functionalities to meet marketing goals.
- Hands-on expertise with content management systems (preferably Drupal and WordPress) and digital analytics tools (preferably Google Analytics)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence
- Ability to interact confidently and comfortably with colleagues at all levels of RUSH.
- Commitment to a customer service mindset and a bias for action
- Talents in data analysis, prioritization, problem solving, and critical thinking.
- Ability to work independently and as part of multifunctional teams.
- Proficiency in planning and delivering projects with minimal direction while seeking guidance when appropriate.
- Superb communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with a background in editorial style a plus.
