Solid Construction Services is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Estimator to join our growing team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of our construction projects by preparing and managing material estimates from project inception through final construction. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to collaborate effectively with multiple departments to support successful project delivery.

Position Summary

The Estimator will play a key role in helping Solid Construction Services scale its operations by developing efficient estimating processes, creating standardized systems, and identifying opportunities to improve accuracy and workflow. This position is not simply responsible for producing estimates, but for helping build the infrastructure and procedures that support the company's continued growth and long-term success.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare detailed material and cost estimates from project startup through project completion.
  • Review construction plans, specifications, selections, and project requirements to develop accurate budgets and projections.
  • Obtain and compare vendor and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive costs and value.
  • Negotiate pricing with suppliers and trade partners when appropriate.
  • Update estimates as project scopes, selections, and construction requirements change.
  • Maintain pricing databases and ensure estimating information remains current and accurate.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to support budgeting, scheduling, and project execution.
  • Collaborate with the Selections Coordinator to incorporate homeowner and design selections into project estimates.
  • Coordinate with the Service Coordinator regarding warranty, service, and post-construction costs as needed.
  • Assist in identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
  • Enter, manage, and maintain data within estimating and project management software systems.
  • Generate reports and spreadsheets to support project tracking and decision-making.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and assist with implementing new systems and technologies.
  • Work directly with Communities by Grainger lifestyle communities.
  • Develop and implement scalable estimating procedures, workflows, and best practices to support company growth.
  • Serve as a key contributor in strategic planning discussions related to purchasing, estimating, and operational growth.

Qualifications

  • Prior construction, estimating, purchasing, or residential building experience preferred.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including formulas, data organization, and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and suppliers.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Eagerness to learn and adapt new software programs, systems, and processes.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to create, improve, and manage operational systems and processes.
  • Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to identify opportunities for efficiency and long-term growth.
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and contribute as a critical member of a high-performing team.
