Electronic Test and Calibration Technologist

Assist Staffing
Lockport, IL

About the Role

Based in Lockport, IL, you’ll join a growing electronics manufacturing team as an Electronic Test and Calibration Technologist. Your bench will be the final checkpoint for sophisticated electronic test and measurement equipment. You’ll dive into boards at the component level, bring drifting instruments back to spec, and return field units to peak performance—all while documenting your work with precision.

A Day in the Lab

Morning starts with a review of incoming RMAs and calibration queues. You’ll open a returned unit, trace a fault with your oscilloscope, replace a defective component rather than an entire assembly, and run a full calibration routine. After lunch, you’ll complete final assembly and test on a production unit, log calibration data, and collaborate with engineering on a root-cause investigation. Before you leave, you’ll update repair logs, inventory usage, and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and documentation procedures.

What You’ll Handle

  • Component-level troubleshooting of PCB assemblies using schematics and diagnostic equipment
  • Final assembly, functional testing, and calibration of electronic test and measurement products
  • Pinpointing failed components and performing targeted repairs (not just swapping assemblies)
  • Servicing, testing, and recalibrating units returned from the field
  • Reading and analyzing electrical schematics to drive troubleshooting and circuit analysis
  • Using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other bench instrumentation
  • Maintaining repair logs, calibration records, production documentation, and inventory accuracy
  • Identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions
  • Resolving technical issues independently with minimal supervision
  • Partnering with engineering, production, and quality teams
  • Adhering to all safety, quality, and documentation standards

What You’ll Bring (Required)

  • 2–4 years of hands-on electronics/electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Solid grasp of electronic theory and circuit analysis
  • Fluency in reading and interpreting electrical schematics
  • Proven experience debugging assemblies down to individual components
  • Comfort with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and similar diagnostic tools
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset
  • Ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities
  • Keen attention to detail and disciplined documentation
  • Clear written and verbal communication
  • Willingness to work overtime when needed

Nice to Have (Preferred)

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s in Electrical/Electronics Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • SMT soldering and de-soldering experience
  • Background in calibration processes and electronic test equipment
  • Manufacturing or production support experience
  • Experience repairing returned electronic products
  • Familiarity with ISO-controlled manufacturing environments

Compensation & Benefits

  • $27.00–$35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience
  • Full-time, 1st shift
  • Overtime opportunities
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance options while on contract
  • 401(k) program
  • Paid time off and holidays where applicable
  • Employee assistance program
  • Training and development opportunities

Upon Hire

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits
  • SIMPLE IRA with 3% company match
  • Accrued paid time off
  • Career advancement opportunities

Why You’ll Like It Here

  • Work daily with advanced electronic test and measurement equipment
  • Use deep troubleshooting skills to the component level
  • Join a stable, growth-oriented manufacturer focused on technology
  • Competitive pay with long-term career growth potential
  • Opportunity to convert to a permanent role based on performance
  • Collaborate with seasoned engineers and technical experts

Technical Proficiencies

  • Electrical schematic interpretation
  • Electrical/electronic troubleshooting at the component level
  • General troubleshooting methodologies
  • Through-hole and micro soldering techniques
  • PCB assembly knowledge
  • Working with complex electrical/electronic systems
