Electrical Design Engineer – Solar PV

Position Summary

The Electrical Design Engineer will support electrical design updates, drawing reviews, technical markups, and comment log preparation for distributed generation solar PV projects. This role will work under the direction of the Lead Electrical Engineer and support 30% design packages, EPC design reviews, and equipment submittal reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare or update 30% electrical single-line diagrams.
• Review preliminary single-line diagrams, design basis documents, and utility/interconnection requirements.
• Review EPC electrical drawings including AC/DC single-lines, grounding plans, cable schedules, site electrical layouts, and equipment details.
• Prepare drawing markups and technical comments.
• Support review of transformer, switchgear, recloser, inverter, combiner box, disconnect, and panelboard documents.
• Track open technical items and support comment log updates.
• Identify missing information, design conflicts, and potential constructability issues.
• Coordinate with document control and technical leads to prepare clean deliverables.
• Support internal QA/QC before comments are issued to the client.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 3–5 years of electrical design or review experience.
• Experience with solar PV, power distribution, substations, or renewable energy projects.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, cable schedules, grounding plans, and equipment data sheets.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Bluebeam, Excel, and PDF markup tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work within deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with distributed generation solar PV projects.
• Familiarity with NEC, NESC, IEEE, and utility interconnection requirements.
• Experience preparing technical comments and design review logs.
• Experience with medium-voltage electrical systems is a plus.
