Laser Operator (1:00pm to 9:30pm)

Laser Operator
General Summary: Sets up and operate the Amada laser cutting machine to produce parts and products in conjunction with customer quality requirements.
Essential Functions:
- Follow safe manufacturing and material handling practices
- Set up and operate laser equipment to perform difficult fabrication operations on a wide range of metals and alloys for complicated subassemblies and assemblies involving coinciding requirements for high strength, pressure and aesthetics
- Perform first piece in-process inspection of jobs as required Ensure jobs meet all requirements before leaving work center
- Perform preventive maintenance on equipment as required
- Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Conserve resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
- Contribute to team effort by training others in performance of laser operation tasks as needed
- Inspect all work prior to passing it on to the next operation
- Document actions by completing production and quality forms
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to safety use small hand and power tools
- Must be able to read and interpret Drawings and Bills of Material
- Must have basic computer skills, including navigation in a Windows-based environment
- Solid understanding of metal fabrication concepts and processes required
- 1-2 years of prior CNC machine operation experience desirable
- Must possess a keen sense of attention to detail
- Must possess the ability to operate overhead cranes, handling large sheet steel
- Must be able to use measuring tools such as tape measures and calipers
- Must be able to determine material types and gages
- Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills
- Must perform all duties in conjunction with UAI and ISO requirements
Education/Experience:
- High School diploma, GED or combination of work experience and skill development required
- 1 year experience working in a manufacturing environment desirable
- Prior experience or training in metal-cutting or operating laser equipment desirable
Physical Demands: (The work is classified as Medium – Heavy Physical Demand Level (PDL) by the US Dept of Labor’s Dictionary of Occupational Titles) Frequencies: Occasional (1-33%); Frequent (34-66%); Continuous (67-100%)
Lifting Demands:
- Lift up to 75 lbs on an occasional basis floor to waist
- Lift up to 50 lbs on a frequent basis floor to chest
- Carry up to 75 lbs on an occasional basis up to 25 feet
- Push/pull up to 100 lbs on an occasional basis
Postural Demands:
- Standing – continuous
- Walking – continuous
- Bending/stooping – frequent
- Squatting/kneeling – frequent
- Lifting – frequent
Miscellaneous Demands:
- Griping, manipulation, fingering – frequent
- Variable hand/power tool use – frequent
- Two-person lifting tasks using assistive devices for lifting, pulling and pushing including hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts and hoists
