Part-Time Office Assistant/Cashier
Hourly Rate: $16.21
This position is an on-campus, part-time, up-to 19-hour appointment based in Champaign, Illinois. Applications accepted through Tuesday, March 17, 2026 at 7PM CT or until the position is filled. Assist the Parkland Presents! Operations Assistant with the office functions and serve as a cashier for Planetarium and Theatre events and shows on weekends and evenings. The Office Assistant/Cashier is a Part-Time, 12-month, up to 19 hours per week appointment on a schedule established by the Parkland Presents! Operations Assistant. - Serve as a point of contact for public visits and inquiries in person, by phone, or by email.
- Confirm reservations and check-in group visits.
- Serve as cashier for the Planetarium and Theatre during public programs on weekends and evenings.
- Communicate event attendance and cash register reports to the Operations Assistant.
- Assist the Operations Assistant with gift shop and concession inventory.
- Provide backup support to other Planetarium and Theatre staff.
- Perform upkeep tasks on weekdays and custodial tasks on weekends.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Functional abilities in Microsoft Office Suite and other office related software packages.
- Excellent customer service and verbal and mathematical abilities sufficient to conduct the duties of this position.
- Prospective new hires will successfully complete a post offer, pre-employment criminal background check with fingerprinting. The background check review includes, but is not limited to, exclusionary offenses per the Illinois School Code and Title IV of the Higher Education Act.
- Capable of following instructions and working well with individuals from various backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently.
- Willingness to work flexible and varied hours, weekends, and evenings.
- Ability to learn the Parkland information system and cashier equipment operation.
- In an effort to comply with SURS return-to-work restrictions for employers (40 ILCS 5/15-139.5), candidates for employment at Parkland College must either not be a SURS annuitant or must be willing to suspend his/her SURS annuity upon employment. This applies to all SURS annuitants except those receiving their annuity under either the Self-Managed Plan (SMP) or by lump sum payment.
