We are seeking a skilled welder with expertise in MIG, Flux Core, and STICK welding. The role involves welding on heavy gauge materials of 1 inch and up, setting up and operating welding machines, and performing simple fabrication tasks. You will utilize hand tools and measuring devices to complete welds within specific time frames. The position requires performing simple layouts, using torches, air arcs, hand grinding, fixture, and tooling aids to fix imperfections. You must be capable of working in flat, horizontal, and vertical positions, reading and interpreting weld symbols, and maintaining a clean work area. The ability to lift up to 60 lbs is essential.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG, Flux Core, and STICK welding on heavy gauge materials.
• Set up and operate welding machines and complete welds in a timely manner.
• Utilize hand tools and measuring devices effectively.
• Perform simple fabrication and layouts.
• Use torches, air arcs, hand grinding, fixture, and tooling aids to correct imperfections.
• Read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
• Maintain work area cleanliness and organization.
• Adhere to safety standards, including wearing steel-toed boots.

• Experience with MIG welding.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints and weld symbols.
• Capability to weld in various positions including flat, horizontal, and vertical.

• Experience with STICK welding.
• Experience in using hand grinding and oxy torches.
• Fabrication and fitting skills.

This is a union position offering competitive starting pay based on experience and performance during the weld test. After 60 days, employees become eligible for union benefits, including a $1 annual pay raise every November. Work Environment

The role is based in a large production steel fabrication shop equipped with several CNC machines and weld booths, working primarily on large steel equipment. The facility, formerly the Whiting building in Harvey, can experience extreme temperatures, being hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Employees are required to wear steel-toed boots and appropriate weld gear. The company supplies products to major clients and has a strong project pipeline.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Harvey, IL.

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

This is a fully onsite position in Harvey,IL.
