Case Manager for Off-Campus Community Living

Job Summary
Provides support for the OCCL (Off-Campus Community Living) function of the Connie Frank CARE (Coordination, Assistance, Response and Education) Center within the Office of the Dean of Students, part of the Division of Student Affairs. Under the supervision of an Assistant Dean of Students, responds to students, families, faculty, and staff seeking information, guidance, and support about a range of student-related issues. Serves as a resource for students who live or plan to live in privately owned apartments or homes in the greater Champaign-Urbana community. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide support and advocacy for student-tenants regarding a range of issues (e.g. housing search assistance, lease reviews, addressing poor building maintenance, reporting building code violations, navigating landlord concerns, managing roommate conflicts, etc.) via ongoing case management; communicate with campus and community partners in support of student-tenants; connect student-tenants to campus and community resources; maintain appropriate documentation of notes and other case files in the Maxient database.
  • Under the supervision of Assistant Dean, respond to students, families, faculty, and staff who seek guidance around a range of student-related academic, health, and personal issues.
  • Selection, train and supervise peer mentors (i.e. student workers) who assist with OCCL promotion, education, programming, etc.
  • Design and facilitate workshops for students on topics such as conducting the housing search, developing budgets for managing living expenses, understanding tenant rights and responsibilities, managing roommate conflicts, engaging with landlords, etc.
  • Initiate and steward partnerships with campus units, local agencies, governments, property owners, and/or community groups which provide resources and support for students living in non-university owned housing; develop programming for partners aimed at strengthening relationships and ongoing education.
  • Respond to critical incidents as a member of the after-hours, on-call response team to provide support during critical incidents (e.g. death of a student, apartment fire, mental health emergency, etc.) and campus emergencies.
  • Collaborate in the development of OCCL's communications, long-term programming goals and implementation, and assessment, ensuring alignment with institutional goals.
  • Serve on Division of Student Affairs/university committees and other university-related events as needed. This may include some after-hours activities.
Additional Physical Demands
Position may have possibility of a hybrid work environment of 1-2 days per week remote work, dependent upon office needs. Minimum Qualifications

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree.
    • Master's Degree in an area consistent with the duties of the position may be substituted for one (1) year of work experience.)
Experience:
  • A total of three (3) years (36 months) in education, training and/or work experience in human services-related fields.
    • Demonstrated post Bachelor's work experience providing direct support, residential management, case management, and/or crisis response services.
Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • Master's degree in counseling, social work, education, student personnel or a related field.
Experience:
  • 1-3 years of professional full-time work experience in higher education or non-profit setting.
  • Experience assisting students in crisis and/or who need high levels of support.
  • Experience advocating for and/or facilitating education on tenant/consumer rights.
  • Experience with conflict mediation and de-escalation strategies.
  • Familiarity with residential lease contracts and housing issues.
  • Familiarity with local leasing market, landlords and services available to tenants.
  • Experience serving in an on-call emergency response team rotation.
  • Experience with selection, training, and supervision of student employees.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 6/1/2026. The budgeted salary range for the position is $60,000 - $63,000.
