Circulation Assistant
Join an award-winning Library! The Schaumburg Township District Library is looking for a Circulation Assistant to join our team. We are looking for an energetic, competent, and detail-oriented Circulation Assistant to support our Central location. This is a 20 hour per week, part-time, hourly position. The hours are as follows and require flexibility.
- Mondays: 8:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.
- Wednesdays: 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
- Fridays: 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Weekend rotation, every four (4) weeks:
- Saturday: 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
- Sunday: 11:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
The schedules are based on the needs of the library and could change if and when needed. The pay range for this position is $17.31-$20.76 per hour, based on skills and qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Library Assistant is a customer service and detail-oriented position. The Library Assistant is responsible for assisting and fulfilling the patrons’ needs in the areas of reception, registration, circulation, processing holds and addressing library account matters. The Library Assistant supports the department in implementing procedures and applying policies. The Library Assistant is responsible for representing the Library in their interactions with patrons.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL EMPLOYEES:

- Ability to learn various job functions, perform them correctly, and understand the necessity in overall library operations.
- Ability to independently function efficiently in a changing and varied environment with frequent interruptions.

- Ability to follow all library policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES:
- Work at assigned locations in the department, including the Welcome Desk, Circulation Desk, Drive-Up Window, sorting room, and picklist processing.
- Check-in and check-out library materials; registration and maintenance of patron accounts; take payment for patron bills and respond to patron circulation and account questions in-person, on the phone and via chat.
- Answer and transfer phone calls, answer directional and basic informational questions
- Manage holds through the pick-list, lockers, sorter and holds shelves.
- Prepare materials for shelving and shelve as needed.
- Assist in the opening and closing procedures of the department.
- Attend meetings, training, or Committees as required or requested.
- Abide by all policies and procedures of the Library.
- Address situations where patrons do not comply with the Library’s Code of Conduct.
- Treat all patrons and employees fairly and with an open mind; maintain patron and employee confidentiality.
- Communicate clearly in person, on the telephone, and in writing.
- Effectively manage daily interactions with patrons and colleagues.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or one (1) to three (3) years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database applications is desired.
