Medical Malpractice Claims Specialist

Kforce has a client that is seeking an experienced Medical Malpractice Claims Specialist to join their Region II team. This role is responsible for independently and proactively managing medical malpractice claims for assigned physician members. The ideal candidate will be based in the Midwest, with a preference for the Chicago area. Candidates located within 50 miles of East Lansing, MI may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. This position became available due to an internal promotion, and we are looking for someone who brings strong critical thinking, ownership, and the ability to make independent recommendations. Key Responsibilities: * Complete initial coverage analysis and develop strategic plans for claim resolution. Interview insureds and consult with external stakeholders (defense counsel, plaintiff attorneys, claimants)

• Provide ongoing support and disclosure of investigation results to insured members
• Recommend assignment of litigated matters to appropriate defense panel members
• Partner with defense counsel to achieve optimal outcomes
• Monitor and approve fees and expenses within authority
• Evaluate facts, allegations, liability, and damages; maintain appropriate case reserves
• Recommend resolution strategies to regional leadership
• Attend mediations, settlement conferences, arbitrations, and trials as necessary
• Provide risk/benefit analysis and support to members throughout the life of the claim
• Advocate for and consult with physician members as a trusted resource
• Participate in member meetings and claim reviews
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required
• 3-5+ years of medical malpractice or equivalent claims-related experience
• Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload
• Familiarity with insurance coverage analysis and legal procedures

Preferred Backgrounds:

• Former medical malpractice defense attorneys with litigation experience, or experienced medical malpractice claims specialists (3-5+ years in insurance)
• Attorneys with litigation experience (even outside of med-mal) and courtroom exposure
• Paralegals from medical malpractice firms with strong analytical and decision-making skills, or Claims professionals from access carriers with relevant Medical Malpractice experience
