LIABILITY CLAIMS SPECIALIST (DEPARTMENT OF RISK MANAGEMENT)
Responsible for managing public liability exposures, including claims filed against, settlement negotiations, recovery of damages, and the oversight of vendors and contract insurance requirements. Contributes to the financial oversight of the self-insurance fund, developing and resolving claims, and reporting on liability exposure to leadership.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of medical, legal, and actuarial principles involved in claims management and public liability.
Ability to assess the financial impact of claims and adjust reserves accordingly.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and specialized claims management software for tracking, organizing, and reporting data.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal and procedural issues clearly.
Ability to provide moderate-level insight, advice and expertise to other professionals, management, and external contacts in an assigned functional area.
Ability to operate as a team player and communicate specialized knowledge to team members, managers, and external stakeholders.
Knowledge of moderately complex principles and practices for a specialized area of focus.
Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree or higher and
- Two (2) years in claims management, public liability, or directly related experience
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience organizing and directing activity related to litigated claims
- Experience negotiating claims recoveries (subrogation)
- Experience with public sector claims management
Physical Requirements
Sedentary Work

Salary Range: $70,242 - $77,452
