Job Summary

We are seeking an Accounting Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will support the accounting department by analyzing financial information, maintaining accurate records of incoming and outgoing payments, preparing payroll, and other essential accounting tasks. The ideal candidate is highly organized with strong mathematical skills and previous experience in bookkeeping or accounting.

Responsibilities

• Communicate with vendors and suppliers to ensure accuracy of charges and payments


• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends and developments


• Enter financial data and transactions


• Analyze budgets and other financial information


• Reconcile bank statements


• Prepare financial reports and statements


• Verify the accuracy of transactions that have been entered


• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable


• Create accounting policies to comply with all rules and regulations


• Process payroll

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field


• Previous experience as an accountant, bookkeeper, or similar position


• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)


• Good with spreadsheets, experienced in Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, and basic accounting systems


• Strong mathematical and analytical skills


• Excellent attention to detail, time management, and communication skills

Compensation: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour

About Little Black Pearl

Who we are

What began as an artist's dream in the basement of her gray stone is now the Little Black Pearl Art and Design Center located in the Kenwood/Oakland neighborhood. Little Black Pearl is a thriving nonprofit serving youth in the Kenwood/Oakland, Woodlawn, and Bronzeville neighborhoods on Chicago’s south side. Firmly rooted in the black community, as the population has changed, so has Little Black Pearl by working with an increasingly diverse youth population and adding curriculum and services for adults and families.

Today Little Black Pearl is a 40,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the community. This cultural arts center provides opportunities in art, culture and entrepreneurship to youth, adults and families across Chicago. In 2011 LBP expanded its vision of marrying art and education by establishing Little Black Pearl Art and Design Academy (LBPA) serving students in 9th -12th grades as an Option School within the Chicago Public School system. LBPA extends the focus on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) by adding the opportunity for our students to engage their natural creativity and expand their learning through Artistic outlets (STEAM).

What we do

LBP works diligently to counter the challenges urban youth face by providing a safe environment, positive role models, and rigorous program and skill development activities and opportunities. Our 20 plus year history has successfully proven that it is possible to marry art and entrepreneurship through real life application of talent, interest and skills. At Little Black Pearl, youth feel safe and open to exploring, expressing and challenging their ideas and feelings through art. The combination of art and business bring out innate talents and shows youth the value of their work. They learn lifelong skills; enhance their self-esteem and benefit from the sale of their art. A wide array of works of art created by youth in programs and workshops provided by Little Black Pearl are available for purchase through the Art and Design Center.
