Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
Hourly Pay Range:
$30.46 - $45.69 - The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
- Position: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
- Location: Northwest Community Hospital
- Full Time/Part Time: Part Time, 20 hours /week
- Hours: Monday-Friday, nights 11pm - 7:30am, e/o weekend and rotating holidays.
- Perform a variety of routine and special Laboratory procedures as authorized by the Supervisor/Manager/Director, including rotating through the Core Lab areas of the Clinical Lab/Section
- Provide training for new hires
- Provide support with employee competencies
- Provide support with MLS student clinical rotation training
- Provide support with SOPs (review, implementation, in-service)
- Responsible for accurately performs routine and special laboratory tests according to procedure manuals and records their results; evaluates test results, including normal and abnormal results which require notification, documentation, and/or verification.
- Evaluates results for clinical significance, validity and appropriateness. Follows prescribed policy in the reporting and notification of test results.
- Performs and documents calibration, maintenance and repair of instruments and equipment. Recognizes indicators of test and/or instrument malfunction; evaluates and implements appropriate corrections.
- Performs, documents and reviews quality control and quality assurance for improvement according to established protocol. Evaluates quality control results and takes corrective action when indicated.
- Performs internal and external proficiency testing in the same manner as patient samples
- Performs specialty testing in areas including chemistry, hematology, coagulation.
- Supports the disease specific accreditations of an institution by meeting turn- around time goals.
- Education: Bachelor or associate's degree and the requisite courses to meet CLIA requirements for moderate to high complexity testing.
- License: Current MLS/MT (ASCP) registration or equivalent.
- Certification: MT, MLS or MLT (ASCP) certification or equivalent and ongoing active certification is strongly preferred.
- Skills: Able to solve technical and interdepartmental problems related to the various lab areas. Capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results and taking corrective action or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel. Good communication and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others
- Experience : Minimum of 5years of laboratory experience in high/Moderate complexity testing. Specially Hematology experience.
