Civil Rights Attorney
Title: Civil Rights Attorney
Location: Chicago, IL
Compensation: Base $90K-$120K + Percentage of settlement fees
Position OverviewWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced Civil Rights Attorney to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to social justice and a passion for defending civil liberties. This position involves representing clients in litigation, appeals, and post-conviction matters. Key Responsibilities
- Represent clients in civil rights litigation cases, including trials and appeals
- Litigate cases under ss 1983 and related statutes
- Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents, including briefs and motions
- Advocate for clients in administrative hearings and court appearances
- Provide legal advice and counsel to clients regarding their civil rights
- Collaborate with community organizations and stakeholders to promote civil rights initiatives
- Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations affecting civil rights
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to practice in Illinois
- 1+ years of experience in civil rights litigation
- Prior experience (clerkship, clinic, internship) in post-conviction, criminal defense, or civil rights litigation
- Strong research, writing, and oral advocacy skills
- Experience with appeals and post-conviction matters is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to civil rights and social justice
