Deputy Director - Division of Intercollegiate Athletics
Division Intercollegiate Athletics Job Summary
The Deputy Athletic Director serves as the number two administrator in the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) and, in consultation with the Director of Athletics, provides daily oversight of all internal operations. The Deputy Athletic Director also serves as a departmental liaison with various campus units and community groups. The position is actively involved in all departmental affairs including long-range planning and policy formulation, the Deputy Athletic Director will also have direct oversight activity over specific support units, and secondary oversight responsibilities for selected sports. Duties & Responsibilities
- Daily Operation of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics -
* Assist the Director of Athletics in the day-to-day oversight operations of the DIA, all within the philosophy and direction of the Director of Athletics, and assume supervision in his absence.
* Work closely with division units, campus departments and community constituent groups
* Assist in the identification, recruitment, hiring and retention of personnel
* Serve as a role model and mentor for young staff
* Participate in the development and implementation of DIA policies
* Maintain effective relations with other University departments and units
* Represent the DIA on campus-wide and departmental committees as necessary
* Readily accept responsibility for handling special and/or unique problems as they arise
* Represent the Director of Athletics and DIA at Big Ten Conference meetings
* Represent Director of Athletics at various development and community functions - Sport Administration -
* Provide leadership and counsel to coaches and unit heads
* Aid in the development and implementation of programs and processes which serve to assure the welfare of all student-athletes
* Assist in scheduling of non-conference games and the preparation of contracts
* Reinforce and demonstrate adherence to a sound code of ethics for the DIA - Executive Staff Strategic Leadership -
* Provide executive organizational leadership to drive innovation, relentless advancement and the pursuit of competitive advantages in the ever-changing college athletics landscape;
* Serve as the executive senior advisor to the Director of Athletics on matters related to staff recruitment hiring, talent management, and talent development strategies and initiatives;
* Foster an environment across DIA that priorities fairness and unity;
* Through proper empowerment, engagement, and incentivization, build a staff culture where all members of DIA staff, regardless of role, are invested in team and individual student-athlete experience and success;
* Use DIA and the traditions it embodies, old and new, as a platform to unify all stakeholders to propel our school spirit and campus pride forward; and
* Serve as a visible, positive ambassador for University of Illinois and DIA in all public-facing responsibilities, creating stronger partnerships with our various communities (local, regional, state, campus, and industry-specific)
Will work nights and weekends Minimum Qualifications Education: Required: Bachelor's degree in sport administration, business administration, communications, or other closely related field Experience: Required:. At least ten (10) years of administrative experience at the Division I level.
Preferred Qualifications Preferred: A Master's degree in same areas as above is preferred

- - Maintain knowledge of, and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position is required. * Ability to reason, recall, analyze and organize information in order to make substantive and sometimes complex decisions reaching reasonable conclusions within the scope of authority. * Ability to identify potential issues and address them before they become problematic. * Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in an inclusive workforce community. * Ability and desire to perform accurate, detail-oriented work, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. * Ability to maintain poise and effectively interact with people in a positive manner. * Knowledge of basic principles and practices of supervisory techniques. * Ability to promote fair and inclusive practices in hiring, selection, and supervision of personnel * Possess facilitation and conflict resolution skills. * Ability to develop and implement strategic plans. Problem-solving skills which show consideration to alternatives and provides for flexibility.
