Director of development
Join us as Director of Membership Development and be the connector who turns introductions into impact—welcoming members, building relationships, and helping McHenry businesses grow.
This is a full-time exempt position.
What You’ll Do
Your time will be focused in three main areas:
Onboarding & Engagement (50%)
- Serve as the first point of contact for new members, ensuring they feel welcomed and supported.
- Lead Chamber Playbook sessions and guide members through an onboarding checklist.
- Connect new members with initiatives, events, committees, and other Chamber resources.
- Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Member Engagement on retention initiatives.
- Assisting with the Ambassador program
Prospecting New Members (25%)
- Identify and engage potential members through personal outreach, networking, social media, and Chamber events.
- Follow up on leads from referrals, walk-ins, and event participation.
- Track outreach efforts and provide regular updates.
Chamber Support (25%)
- Assist with Chamber signature events, networking programs, and community activities.
- Report membership activity and progress to the Board of Directors.
What We’re Looking For
- Strong relationship-building and customer service skills.
- Comfortable introducing yourself, making calls, and starting conversations with new people.
- Organized and detail-oriented, able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Basic tech comfort — email, spreadsheets, social media, Canva.
- Team-oriented but confident working independently.
Bonus if you have:
- Experience in membership development, customer success, or relationship management.
- Established business contacts in the McHenry area.
- Comfort leading small groups or facilitating networking.
