We are seeking a highly skilled Carpenter with expertise in historic exterior restoration, particularly focused on structural and finish carpentry related to tile and slate roofing systems.

Position Overview:

The Carpenter will be responsible for supporting tile and slate roofing projects through precise carpentry work that ensures the structural integrity, historic accuracy, and long-term performance of exterior restorations. This includes fabrication, repair, and installation of wood framing, decking, cornices, soffits, fascia, and other architectural elements tied to roofing systems.

This role requires a keen eye for detail, a passion for historic preservation, and hands-on experience working on complex, high-end restoration projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform carpentry tasks related to the preparation and installation of tile and slate roofing systems, including roof decking, underlayment, sheathing, and structural supports.
• Repair and restore historic wooden elements such as rafters, cornices, fascia, and soffits while maintaining historic accuracy.
• Collaborate with roofing specialists to ensure proper integration of carpentry work with slate, tile, and copper systems.
• Interpret architectural drawings, historic documentation, and job specifications to execute restoration tasks accurately.
• Use traditional carpentry techniques and tools, as well as modern methods, to achieve durability and preservation.
• Inspect and assess existing wood structures for damage, rot, or instability; recommend and perform repairs.
• Ensure all work complies with OSHA safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.

Qualifications:

Required:

• 3+ years of carpentry experience (historic restoration experience preferred).
• Strong knowledge of wood types, joinery, and repair techniques for exterior applications.
• Familiarity with tile and slate roofing systems, including integration with carpentry structures.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and specifications.
• Competence with hand tools, power tools, and specialty equipment.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Commitment to safety, teamwork, and historic preservation.

Preferred:

• Experience in historic building restoration or preservation carpentry.
• Knowledge of copper and sheet metal work as it relates to roofing systems.
• OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
• NCCER or trade certifications in carpentry or roofing.

Physical Requirements:

• Comfortable working at heights and on steeply pitched roofs.
• Ability to lift 75 lbs. or more, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
• Manual dexterity and ability to perform precision tasks.
