Summer Camp Inclusion Aide

SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, or his/her designee, the Inclusion Aide is responsible for ensuring the safety, well-being, and positive experience of all camp participants, including those with disabilities or additional support needs. Inclusion Aides create a fun, inclusive, supportive environment while leading activities, supervising campers, and maintaining a clean and safe camp setting. Staff may also provide individualized assistance to participants who require adaptive support, fostering meaningful engagement and participation in all camp programming.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
- Supervise assigned campers to ensure a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful camp experience.
- Plan, organize, implement, and actively lead daily camp activities for campers of all abilities.
- Assist with preparing, cleaning, and maintaining camp spaces, equipment, and materials.
- Follow all Village and Department policies, procedures, rules, and safety guidelines.
- Supervise campers during swim time; inclusion aides are required to be in the pool when their assigned camper(s) are in the water.
- Establish positive, supportive, and respectful relationships with all campers.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to camper needs, including personal care, behavior support, injuries, or concerns.
- Encourage positive behavior, problem-solving skills, and appropriate interactions among campers; implement behavior management strategies consistently and constructively.
- Modify or adapt activities, instructions, and environments as needed to support full participation of campers with disabilities or additional support needs.
- Promote social inclusion by facilitating interaction and engagement between campers with and without disabilities.
- Maintain responsibility for assigned participant(s) unless directed otherwise by supervisory staff.
- Communicate effectively with the Recreation Supervisor and, when applicable, the Inclusion Manager with M-NASR regarding camper progress, concerns, incidents, or support strategies.
- Assist with implementing behavioral, emotional, physical, or developmental support plans as trained.
- Maintain accurate records, including attendance, documentation, incident reports, and other required forms in a timely manner.
- Serve as a positive role model for campers and peers by demonstrating professionalism, patience, and teamwork.
- Work cooperatively with staff, inclusion partners, and outside agencies (such as M-NASR).
- Attend required meetings and trainings.
- Support all aspects of camp operations.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The wage range for the position is $15-$16. This position is seasonal and does not qualify for benefits.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- One year of related experience is preferred but not required.
- CPR, AED, First Aid, and Epi-Pen/Glucagon certifications required prior to the start of camp (training may be provided).
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient with email communication.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos. Ability to compose and prepare reports and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money, weight measurement, volume, and distance.
REASONING ABILITIES:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with children
- Ability to prioritize duties and complete tasks within allotted planning hours
- Must be able to respond to the needs of individuals with disabilities
- Understanding of the principles, practices, and objectives of Parks and Recreation administration and recreation programming
- Capacity to troubleshoot, problem solve, and use good judgment
- Ability to deal with the public tactfully and courteously
- Commitment to promoting the positive image and growth of the Day Camp program
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is often required to walk, run, sit, stand, reach with hand and arms, talk, and hear. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position requires frequent exposure to natural and seasonal weather conditions as well as insects while supervising employees and completing job duties.

- Comply with established safe work rules and the special instructions of the supervisor

- Submit recommendations for safety and efficiency, as well as report defective equipment and unsafe conditions
- Know their exact duties in case of fire or catastrophe
- Use safety equipment provided for personal use in performing daily work assignments
- Only operate equipment trained and authorized to operate
- Provide public protection from unsafe conditions and hazards resulting from municipal work operations
- Participate in special safety activities, as designated, such as CPR, anti-harassment training, and special training, etc.
